If we buyout Salmons next year we have 11mil in cap room without cap holds? Am I doing that right?

Landry and Hayes both are both expiring next year and they add up to 12 mil.

This went from a team in a shitty financial situation to a pretty good one in the coming years.

Depends on where the cap ends up, but yes. Cut Daye and Hansbrough and you've got enough for a max player.

I don't expect any big signings in the FA wouldn't really make sense for rebuilding team

Could go either way. If there's a superstar available, you never pass up the chance to make an offer. And Ujiri's style fits with a short rebuild - get that superb talent through the draft, grab a couple solid role players with acquired picks, sign a superstar or all-star level player, and you're off to the races with Jonas/Ross/Free Agent/Top Pick as your core.

Then again, could also use the cap space to make trades sacrificing financial flexibility to take on more picks, moving the cap space back a year (as a note, we could have more than enough room for two max players in summer 2015) and having two consecutive top draft picks to go with Jonas/Ross and whoever we sign in summer 2015.

Second option sounds much better to me

What does waiving DJ save us compared to waiving Stone or Byucks?

Nothing we would've saved about 700,000 if we waived Stone though.

With DJ gone, no impact to cap this year. His cap hold disappears for the 2014-15 numbers, but that would almost certainly have been waived anyway.

So if Masai structured this deal the way I think he did, we now have a trade exception.

You'd have to structure the deal as two deals - Gay for X and Gray and Acy for Y. Acy is a minimum deal, so he doesn't count as incoming salary, so it is easy to balance from SAC's point of view. That allows the Raptors to absorb 150% of their outgoing. So Gray and Acy make 3.5M, meaning the outgoing salary for the Kings has to be at most 5.5M. Vasquez and Patterson would fit that at 5.3M.

That leaves Gay (17.9M) for Salmons and Hayes (13.3M). That fits within the 150% allowed for salary difference since the Kings are below the tax. That leaves a 4.6M trade exception.

$4,583,431 to be precise. Good until waived or December 9th 2014.

F**k that is miserable. That's not even including hypothetical GV or PP extensions or QOs, or any picks. MU needs to correct that and I think he knows that.

Not as bad as pre-trade, but still this team is a 10th seed caliber squad and should never end up over the cap with this core.

After the Rudy trade they were saying on NBATV that we only had 38Mil in garanteed contracts next season.

If we renounce all holds and waive all unguaranteed and partially guaranteed guys it's about right. The team would be demar, jv, Hayes, Ross, fields and Novak.

Yeah, shamsports has it at 40mil but i think it's 46Mil with the Chuck Hayes contract. I think it's important that we unload contracts like Fields/Novak in the next few months.
