Raptors can't use the amnesty prevision after tuesday?

So beyond tomorrow, we can't use the amnesty? :confused2:

Okay, Tuesday ends the amnesty period and if Bryan uses it – and he continues to say it’s a last resort and there’s no plans right now – I’m thinking it’s a big mistake.

Especially if he does it for Jose, which, according to the last time I spoke with Bryan, was not in the cards.

No matter what you think, Calderon is an asset as much as anything, a solid guard with a big contract and to limit your moves with him – if there are moves to be made – by giving him away for nothing makes no sense whatsoever.

It leaves you with no backup point guard and there aren’t an awful lot of proven NBAers floating on the market; there’s no indication there’s a $10-million player out there that they’re interested in adding; why not wait, use the player in the season to see what’s up for trades and, at worst, have that money next summer.

No, it’d be the dead wrong thing to do.

Other candidates? Not sure there are any. The Kleiza piece was interesting but now maybe there’s a role for him at the three; I think if you need to divest yourself of either Amir Johnson or Ed Davis, it’s better to explore trades than giveaways.

For this upcoming season. If they don't use it, they can still use it next off-season (or the one after that).

no, i know that but i didn't know there was a deadline in the offseason?

DanH 07-16-2012 11:59 AM

Yes, it is a seven day period from the end of the moratorium.

If anything we should amnesty Amir. We have to many PF's. Kleiza is still a good player and is showing that by playing for Lithuania. Caldy has to much value to be amnestied plus he expires next season

i still don't see where all this value is. if there is then we should be able to move his ass. still remains to be seen.

Wait until next year. They are just getting a hint of clarity right now. They need to see where that leads, or doesn't lead in the case of a number of players, and then look at using it next time around. Unless they need the capspace to make a surefire trade.

I don't mean that type of value alone. I mean value on our team aswell. I mean if we can't trade him just keep him around as our backup. He would be an awesome back-up for this team.

Honestly, that is a distraction this team absolutely doesn't need. Not again! I've seriously had enough of that shit! We need to move on from Calderon.

EggsToTheBBQ 07-16-2012 12:56 PM

Wait until after the Olympics to move Calderon.

His value will probably be higher then.

Bankiz 07-16-2012 12:57 PM

if the top 4 passer pg, and the best assist/turnover pg of the league has no value, many player have no value i think.
and he has value just because he has an expiring contract of 10.3M that can shed some money for some luxury team.

i understand you don't like him, but don't be overreac because of that.
i suppose BC wants some tpe or capspace from caldy and a mid to late first pick next year to balance our own pick that we trade to houston for Lowry. that would be nice. otherwise, i think BC will do a trade to get a SF.

If he doesn't break something, maybe. But even then, there's as good a chance his value goes down or just stays the same.

if no injury... that's a big risk with caldy.

he's going to pull his hammy in the first game

didn't he get injured last Olympics as well?

INSIDER 07-16-2012 01:18 PM

unless we have our eyes set on some big time FA, it would be a mistake to amnesty Calderon... and since the really good FAs are pretty much off the market, it doesnt make sense to amnesty him. we'd be just giving away (in my opinion) the best backup PG in the league for free.
whats the risk in holding onto him? there is no risk. he expires next year and will be 10mil off the books for us. so even if he gets injured and we cant trade him, he's still an expiring contract.
his trade value alone will be greater the longer we hold onto him (as long as he doesnt get hurt).

Superjudge 07-16-2012 01:21 PM

Were there any FA's this offseason?

MBailey85 07-16-2012 02:18 PM

Between Amir,Jose & Linas alone that's over 20 Million committed to reserve players this season. Calderon would be a good back up PG, Kleiza provides some offense off the bench and will help Jonas with his transition into the league/American game. I think Ed Davis can replace and provide exactly what Johnson does in given minutes. Whether they trade Jose or not,the amnesty probably should be used on Amir.

LKeet6 07-17-2012 07:50 AM

if we let jose expire and amnesty amir next summer, we'd have a ton of capspace! Even amnestying amir would give us some good wiggle room.

obviously i'd prefer a trade that gets us something for jose.

RAPMAN 07-17-2012 09:58 AM

Scola would have been a great addition to the team. The should have amnesty Amir last week, traded James Johnson, and outbid Phoenix for Scola. Scola and Jonas would have made a great frontcourt tandem.

i agree, love scola. Wouldn't have been a long-term move tho. Like bargs but scola woulda fitted better and bargs could've got us that SF everyone wants.

happy moving forward with bargs and fields tho, with still a chance we could do a trade for a SF.
