Finnaly!!!!!!! Hopefully we are a consistent winning team by then ... this should help the team, city and attract future players

HOUSTON—The process of staging the NBA’s all-star weekend is elaborate and time-consuming and it’s impossible for things to happen without a huge amount of lead time.

Three years in the case of Toronto.

According to several sources, Maple Leaf Sports and the Raptors have already begun the process of submitting an official bid to host the 2016 all-star game to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the franchise and to bring one of the league’s most popular events to an international venue for the first time ever.

People with knowledge of the hospitality industry in Toronto say league officials have already been in the city making inquiries about hotel availability and convention space.

This would be a big deal, the only cold climate all star games are in is NY, every other All Star game is hosted in hot weather places

That's just enough time to build some kind of climate controlled biosphere.

If it's in New York and there's a snow storm, they were just unlucky that week. If it's a snow storm here, it'll be because some idiot put the all star game in the arctic north.

Was a very good weekend, all in all; the game was pretty good, the stories were pretty obvious and I think well done, the infrastructure here worked well (and you have no idea how traffic congestion, messed up bus schedules and weather can ruin one of these weekends for everyone) and the hospitality suite was open until 2 a.m. and the food was good and plentiful.

And now maybe its going to come to our little town, as I mentioned yesterday.

Too bad for the fans and season ticket holders.

One of the great fallacies about hosting an NBA all-star weekend is that the season ticket holders and fans in the city will benefit.

Nope.

Id say perhaps 10 per cent of the tickets to the Saturday and Sunday night events are available to regular folks in the host city, the rest go to corporate partners and friends of the league.

This is the NBAs showcase for itself, it takes care of its buddies and money-making partners, the locals get to see the show up close and personal but as for getting into the arena: Itd be far easier to get to a Finals game than it is to the all-star weekend.

But it is a show. A big show.

The Jam Session, at a cost per ticket, is cool to see; the city benefits from the Day of Service with a lot of volunteer work at a lot of different venues and the hotels, bars and clubs do a land office business.

But the people?

The people get to watch from afar for the most part, there are many famous people in town to gawk at; not so much the inside of the arena.

Im just warning you; its a fun weekend in a lot of ways, just maybe not in all the ways youre thinking.

Looking back at last weekend I wouldn't even want an AS event in T.O......

How sick would an AllStar weekend in Europe be though!!!

I always used to be so excited about the thought of an allstar game coming here to toronto. Now all I can think about is how much of a waste of money it would be to attend. Lets face it, its prob a pretty boring event to see up close, and unless your really close to the action, lower bowl, there would be no point in going (cause lower bowl you can at least see the antics of the famous spectators, players ect.......allstar weekend is a boring showcase that I would rather pvr then attend anyways

It would be awesome, but we should become a winning team by then, at least a .500 one

It is different in other cities...No franchises have more corporate suits in attendance than those run by MLSE.

Check out a Leafs game, you can hear people breathing. If you try and get Roudy and cheer, people on their blackberries will tell you to hush down.

leaf fans are all delusional, I know, i'm one of um, its quiet there because they all actually sit there and pretend they are gm's and they critique the game... trust me, its a real phenomenon. Pretty knowledgeable fanbase though, and thy get crazy when its warranted.

If you think other major media centers are void of suits though, you're insane

The only leafs game I've been to I stood up to cheer and had a suit behind me ask me to sit down.

Are you serious man?

Obviously just a bad apple but still...weak.

That's fairly typical in the lower bowl. Same with Jays games, although there it's more security telling you to sit down. It's pretty sad. They were talking about this the other day on the Jeff Blair show. There was a consensus for the most part that Raps/TFC have the best atmosphere for games other than the Rock which probably has the best atmosphere but they basically said that it was lacrosse so it "doesn't count". lol
