Raptors Raptors become a Playoff team after this deal

This team has potential and behind Dwayne Casey's coaching philosophy can become a contender in a few years. They need to acquire more talent in a superstar driven league. This trade would make the Raptors instantly a playoff team

Toronto Acquires

SF - Rudy Gay
PG- Mike Conley Jr.
(If necessary) Grizzlies 2nd round pick in 2013 draft

Memphis Acquires

PG - Jose Calderon
SF - Linas Kleiza
PF - Amir Johnson
Toronto's 1st round pick (Projected 8th overall)

Raptors Pros/Cons

• Receive a defensive minded point guard in Conley Jr. (Averaged 2.2 steals per game) who can run the offense (Averaged 6.5 assists per game) eventhough he's not the ideal playmaker (like a Rose,Paul,Parker,etc..)
•Receive a legitimate Small Forward who could take and make the game winning shot. Also his presence would make it easier for Bargnani and Derozan to find their shots.
•Get rid of Amir Johnson's contract (overpaid for his out put, when you have Ed Davis who contributes the same amount with the given minutes) and Linas Kleiza's contract.
•Lose a definite top 10 lottery pick

Grizzlies Pros/Cons

•Receive a veteran Point Guard in Calderon, who's contract is expiring. Also Jose is very familiar with Marc Gasol (a building block for Memphis),his Spanish teammate in FIBA
•Receive a lottery pick where they could draft a Barnes or Jones III to replace Gay but remain competitive with veterans like Allen and Randolph on the roster.
•Receive great role players for a playoff team in Kleiza and Johnson
•Lose an All-Star caliber wing man in Gay

Recap/Breakdown

This deal would be approved,as it was deemed successful on ESPN's Trade Machine (minus the picks). Both teams benefit from this transaction in my opinion. Sure Toronto could draft a prospect but just because they make a selection in the lottery, doesn't mean the player will pan out. The Raptors need proven talent and Rudy Gay is that,as well as Conley Jr. I would strongly consider trading away that pick unless it winds being a top 5 pick. In the past Toronto has blown lottery picks on Raphael Araujo, Joey Graham & Alexzander Radojovic to name a few. The time has come for Jose Calderon to be traded,he's suited better on a playoff bound team where he's not depended on being a top 3 scorer. Ben Uzoh proved that any Guard can come into the Raptors perimeter shooting happy offense and have success,Uzoh's contract was under $80,000 for the season while Calderon made over $9,000,000. Toronto could bring back Jerryd Bayless as a back up PG and occasion SG. The best part is the Raptors release themselves from Johnson & Kleiza's contracts. It's definitely a risk but sometimes it pays off, for example, The Boston Celtics were terrible the year before Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen were acquired. They owned the 5th overall pick but package that with some players to get Allen, They were then able to attract Garnett once they had Allen and Paul Pierce. The very next season they became NBA Champions. I'm not saying the Raptors will win the Larry O'Brien Trophy but they'd definitely become a young playoff team on the rise (sort of like this season's Indiana Pacers) in a weak Eastern Conference.

There is no way!
In which fantasy world would The Grizz make such a horrible trade?

This trade could be made on draft day, afterwards the line up/roster would look like this for next season

Center - Valanciunas/ (Free Agent),
Power Forward - Bargnani, Davis , (Free Agent)
Small Forward - Gay, Johnson, (2nd Draft Pick)
Shooting Guard - Derozan, Forbes (Free Agent)
Point Guard - Conley Jr. , (Free Agent)

•I'm not sure if we have our 2nd round pick

What makes this a horrible trade?

Last season the Grizzlies were one win away from advancing to the West Finals,WITHOUT Gay(who made over $15,000,000 this season). They're going to need to resign Gasol soon and Calderon's expiring contract would free up space. They could draft a PG like Kendall Marshall if they're worried about replacing that position down the road. Kleiza and Amir would be more effective in a disciplined system like Memphis. Every trade has winners and losers but I think this is fair.

Let me help you out with that trade - however I think Memphis has no interest in trading Conley who is very good defensively and fits in on that team. I think there is an easy way to get Gay - DD,ED,JJ,our 2nd rounders, maybe LKZ too. I don't know if that's enough but they get four possible rotation players and their depth improves.

Memphis will be interesting to watch as most people don't believe they'll pay big $. They'll have to make a decision on Mayo soon.

That's alot for Gay, who averages just 2 points more than Derozan alone,

I think the intent should be to pair the 2,i don't think we get Gay without giving up our 1st.

If our 1st isn't a top 5 I'd trade the pick/Amir/JJ or pick/ED/Kleiza for Gay....either way,they'd have to take Amir or Kleiza's contract if I were BC

I say definitely pursue Gay but I agree Conley Jr. Would be hard to get.

I'm not so sold on DD. Either way Gay would be a nice addition to this squad.

How much booze do you have make Memphis GM drink to buy into that trade? I'd say several gallons.

It would be nice to have Gay and Conley, but Memphis is doing pretty well right now, why would they give two important players for scrubs and mid-lottery pick?

Read my analysis and explain to me where I'm wrong from Memphis point of view?

They've already won a playoff series without Gay
Gasol was an All Star this year, how are they gonna resign him when they got big money tied up to Z-Bo, C. Jr. and Gay?
Many members on here claim Jose is so great but all of a sudden he has no value in this deal, and he's an expiring contract ( JC 10 PPG, 9 apg vs CJr 12 PPG 6 apg)
Kleiza played a key role off the bench for a similar structured Nuggets team that went to the West Finals a few years back
With the 8th they could draft a good prospect

I think my points are valid,I'm reading alot of "it won't happen" but no valid explanations or reasons.

Especially after the success of Pau,you believe they view Marc as their franchise player moving forward.

I agree,Conley Jr. may be hard to acquire but I feel they'll deal Gay and the Raptors should be first in line because he's what they need.

I can see the Grizz making Gay available if they dont go deep in the playoffs, but unless they get blown away by a deal, theres no way they trade Conley. He gets better every year and hes one of the most reliable starting PGs in the game, and he plays extremely well with their bigs. This trade is only realistic if we get a top 3 pick and include Derozan in the deal instead of Kleiza.

It was Conley in the deal hat made it sound extremely unrealistic to me. He's a key piece for that team. They can't mess with that.

Okay,I understand now. The addition of Conley Jr complicates the deal...maybe if he's replaced by Mayo its more realistic but then acquiring Calderón would be pointless for Memphis, tough business

Maybe the 1st,Kleiza and Forbes for Gay does the trick lol

get use to it !!! sorry, but i remind me of me when i'm pissed by people whom just say no, and don't develop their tough on why not !

but in fact your trade kind of make sense, could i propose something else :

NOH get TPE (6.8M) + 2nd rd indy 2012
Memphis get Ariza + Calderon + kleiza + 1st toronto 2012
toronto get Gay + Conley JR

NOH get some more capspace to continue to rebuild.
memphis with ariza and Kleiza get a starter SF and a backup, that give them more depth. and the pick can give them more depth at some other position.

we get 2 starters and end our problems at pg and SF, and we keep our pick.

Only if we don't get a top 5 pick.

Conley JR/FA
DD/Forbes/FA
Gay/JJ/2nd rd 2012
Bargs/Amir/ED
JV/Gray/Alabi

but this is a trade i think can be applicate to iguy :

NOH get TPE + 2nd rd indy 2012
PHily get ariza + Calderon + davis
tor get iguy + holliday + 1st phily 2012

People are gonna start thinking me and you are the same guy or related because I actually like your proposals lol

I think for the NO-TO-MEM deal, send Mayo to NO and the trade is completely fair and much better than my proposal...Grizzly wouldn't need Mayo with Ariza a pick and Kleiza coming in

I think Philly is getting gyped off a bit but if TO sends their 1st its a bit more balanced, but I really like that first proposal for all teams
