Default Raptorsí Bargnani struggling on offence, defence

Quote:
Since an impressive start, the diversity in Bargnani’s offensive game has regressed. At one point in the third quarter of Toronto’s loss in Utah on Wednesday, Bargnani received the ball three feet behind the three-point arc with eight seconds left on the shot clock. While he was going to have to take a shot, the 26-footer he launched, without so much as a dribble, was the laziest option.

The Raptors went 1-3 on their road trip, beating the Los Angeles Clippers before suffering three straight losses. In those defeats, Bargnani shot 14-for-39 (36 per cent) from the floor and 2-for-10 on his three-point shots.

Bargnani’s overall numbers still look good — 17.9 points per game, 6.2 rebounds, 48 per cent shooting, 42 per cent from three-point territory — but if he ever wants to be a consistent second threat behind Chris Bosh, he is going to have to embrace shots that lend themselves to a higher percentage. If not, Amir Johnson, who gives Bosh some much-needed support on the offensive glass, should be given some more of Bargnani’s time on the floor.

Well something we all know. I hate the Bargs 3 point pump fake and then the 3 sept dribble and shoot almost the same perecentage shot. That really pisses me off. Then again alot of things piss me off about Bargs because I really thought he would become a different type player by now.

I guess I drank the Koolaid .... I guess in Bargs case the Brio that finished off my Veal sandwich.

Bargs has been hesitating taking his 3s. He's pulling a Kapono lately.

Hesitation with Bargs is never good. More often than not it will end up being a shitty play. He needs better hands because whatever he's doing right now isn't working.

Maybe I'm seeing things, but his shot seems to have gone flat, with very little arc. Two seasons ago, and much of last season, when he shot the ball very poorly, he was doing the same thing. If you don't put good arc on your shot, it has very little chance of going in.

He needs to hang around his Italian teammate more. He and Marco should talk over some Penne Pasta....Bargs favorite pre-game meal.

Definitely agree with Amir Johnson taking some of his minutes if he doesn't get his shit together. Amir's been playing well and show's some serious hustle. Bargnani's only value on the floor is hitting jumpshots cause it definitely isn't playing d or grabbing boards.

One thing regarding his offensive arsenal that bothers me is his reluctancy to get to the rim after faking out his man. He has perfected the pump fake, but more often than not, after executing it and blowing by his guy he just settles for a long two when he can probably slither his way towards the tin. Good things are liable to transpire, such as his caging of the Birdman.

I have noticed some intriguing signs of potential improvement on defense though. He seems to be getting hairier, leading me to believe he may be the second coming of Scott Howard AKA Teen Wolf. And Scott Howard blew before he became Teen Wolf. Imagine Bargnani with his current skills coupled with a werewolf's athleticism and disposition.

True enough, but it's his fourth season. Age aside, he should know enough to go to the rim more and play as if he's awake. Simply put, he needs to grow a pair and become more aggressive more often. I just don't know if that will ever be a consistent part of his game.

It would be nice if all these things came naturally to him.

But just because they don't doesn't mean he won't learn them..... and doesn't mean he should be written off for not knowing them now.

I agree, i like him most of the time. He's frustrating at times though. He looks like he's thinking too much, instead of just playing.

Bargs is averaging great numbers. That is good enough. As for defense, the whole team needs to work together, not just Bargs himself.

I think Bargs is doing as much as his body is allowing him to do. It isn't his fault he doesn't have a 35 inch vertical leap like most PF's do.

As long as Bargs is our starting center this team is going nowhere. We need defense, energy and rebounding from that position which is something Bargs cannot do. Give me Joakim Noah for Bargs in a heartbeat.

The team has the same problems it always had for the last 4 years and the only constant is Bargs at center since everyone else is gone. (no I dont blame Bosh or Calderon)

1. Slow starts getting blown out in the 1rst Q due to poor D.(when he didnt start we didnt have this problem)
2. No big man protecting the rim
3. No hustle or getting after the ball(ie rebounding)
4. Does not take charges, does not give full effort on D

Seriously I know this wont happen but I would rather start Johnson, Rasho or Evans at center. We need someone who will do some dirty work in the starting lineup.

His shot has been flat lately. All of his pullups hes not getting his legs into it enough, and theyre all in and out or just plain front rim. Looks like hes straightlining it because he has no lift.

It works out better for us when Bargs shoots the bullet straight shots, because the ball either counts, or rebounds so far out that we usually get the offensive rebound..
Bargs inconsistency is exactly what I expected from him this season, it's a damn shame.
