Heat Raptors Apparently Interested in Miami's #2 Pick

So, more talk about the Raptors acquiring the #2 selection from Miami in turn for our boy Jose.

Needless to say, draft night could be very interesting for Toronto.

As I said before, I don't care who stays at this point. Knowing that Jose will catch us the bigger fish, I'm cool with having to part ways with him if we have to. To get something special, you gotta part with something special. Ford just isn't as appealing to other teams as much as Jose is and if Ford has drawn interest from suitors, we're not likely going to be able to get much in return for him to help improve this team immediately.

My biggest concern is if Jose goes and TJ falls again and can no longer play.

It would really suck to go from having two decent point guards and one of the most enviable tandems in the league to nothing at all.

True, but everyone's really a serious injury away from their career being over. Some things you just got to take chances with. I'm willing to take that risk in my opinion.

Yes, but TJ with his narrowing spine has a greater chance of being injured than a normal person.

Dr. J, witness Celtics and Lakers getting "something special" for "nothing special", especially Lakers with Gasol.

By trading Calderon - and I am not saying that Miami deal is bad, although I doubt very much it will happen - Raps lose the only insurance against Ford's injuries. And no, Ford is not like any other NBA player - where another player would just get up after a spill to the floor, Ford's condition could lead to all sorts of unpleasant symptoms, like last time, and cause him to lose a lot of games while the team relies on whom exactly? Delfino? Ukic?

My fear is that TJ does NOT hurt himself and he plays badly... as he is known to do lately.

BTW, there is one way in which trading Caldy+#17 for #2 (and I still don't believe Miami would do that) could work out - if we take Rose or Mayo with that pick. We'd end up with a fairly small starting back court, but we'd also have an insurance against Ford being injured again.

And do you think either Rose or Mayo would want to play back-up to start their careers?

Mayo I could see starting as a bench player, but he's more a SG than he is a PG, but Rose is definitely going to want to start with whomever drafts him. Don't see it happening Mike.

I've been saying this all along, the Raps are really interested in Beasley. The reason why we saw TJ take all those shots is because there really was no #2 option on the floor. With Beasley, there's another scorer aside from Bosh on the floor. This deal would require us taking both Blount and Marcus Banks in return. And probably sending Rasho their way.

So the deal would look like:
Calderon
Rasho
#17 selection
something else

for #2 selection
Banks
Blount

if we ever do this deal and land the number 2 pick, that selection will almost definitely be Beasley.
at this current moment, he is exactly what this team needs.
he's a scorer who can get to the rim at will, he can shoot, and he can rebound.
its risky though because we dont know for sure what the bulls will do, and its not a guarantee that they take Rose... if they take Beasley; we're fucked. Rose is awesome, and we'd of course take him, but then we're right back at square one.

Havent seen him play outside of youtube videos, but this is what I have read around:

-Has maturity problems.
-Brainless player "A la Melo".
-Plays Boshs position.
-Not a good work ethic.

Do we want a player like that in toronto?

he'd be a big SF in my opinion... he's 6'9 about 230...
his athleticism and quickness would allow him to settle in the SF position well.
he's good... damn good. i didnt realize he put up 26/12 in college last year. thats pretty damn impressive.
but bel is on to something and its a factor that scares me; his attitude. not much good has been said about it.

You didn't understand me. I meant getting either Rose or, more likely, Mayo and starting them alongside Ford. Hence my remarks about small backcourt.

Mayo will flop, mark my words.
6'4 SG's just dont make it in today's NBA unless they are ridiculously talented.
he's a tweener and will end up like another Mccants or Foye or worse.
i just dont see him making a big impact.
this is one guy we should not look at acquiring... if we do move up in the draft.

Mayo will be a very good player. I think he'll be a Ben Gordon type player, but better handles.
