Exclamation Raptors Announce 2009-10 Schedule

Quote:
The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday they will tip-off their 15th season in the National Basketball Association on Wednesday, October 28 versus 2009 NBA MVP LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers at Air Canada Centre. The October 28 launch is the earliest in franchise history (October 29 in 2003 and 2008). This also marks the tenth time in team history the club has started the regular season at home.

Toronto’s road debut is set for Friday, October 30 as the club makes its lone visit of the season to Memphis. This marks the fourth time the Raptors’ first road game of the season will be against a Western Conference foe (San Antonio in 2002, Minnesota in 2003 and Sacramento in 2004).

The schedule begins with nine of the first 12 games against opponents that participated in the 2009 postseason - Cleveland, Orlando, Detroit, New Orleans, Dallas, San Antonio, Chicago, Denver and Utah. November has two trips out west that are separated by a single home game with November 6-9 at New Orleans, Dallas and San Antonio followed by November 13-18 at the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix, Denver and Utah. The club will play a stretch of 11 of 14 games at home from January 22 -- February 26.

The longest road swing occurs twice with four games (November 13-18 and March 9-14). The longest home stand of the season is four games from February 3-17, which includes the All-Star break. Noteworthy games in Toronto on the 2009-10 schedule include two afternoon visits by Dwight Howard and his defending Eastern Conference Champion Orlando Magic on November 1 and 22; Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns make their only regular season trip to Canada on Sunday, November 29; Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets visit town Sunday, December 20; Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics come to town Sunday, January 10 and Wednesday, April 7; Kobe Bryant and his World Champion Los Angeles Lakers appear on Sunday, January 24; a rare Saturday home contest February 20 versus Washington, the team’s first since February 3, 2001 versus Minnesota; and LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers make a second trip to Toronto on Wednesday, February 26. On the road, newly-acquired Raptor Hedo Turkoglu will make his first trip back to Orlando on Wednesday, December 16 to face his former Magic squad.

Toronto will play its sixth season in the Atlantic Division, joining Boston, New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia. The Raptors were a member of the Central Division from 1995-2004.

The schedule features four games against divisional foes with two home and two away. The remaining 10 conference teams will be played twice at home and on the road with the exception of four teams -- two will be played once at home and twice on the road (Charlotte and Milwaukee) and two will be faced twice at home and once on the road (Chicago and Washington). Each Western Conference team will be played once at home and on the road.

The busiest day for the Raptors this season will be Wednesday with 23 games on the schedule. Sunday features a season-high 15 home games, while Wednesday shows 14 games at Air Canada Centre. On the road, the busiest day is Wednesday and Friday with nine games each.

The majority of the team’s home games will fall on the weekend with eight games on a Friday and 15 on a Sunday, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the 41 home dates.

The Raptors’ busiest month is October/November with 18 games. The busiest home months are October/November and December with eight games, while the busiest road month will be October/November with the Raptors facing 10 games away from Toronto. The schedule is evenly balanced with 19 home and 22 road games for the first half of the season and 22 home and 19 road outings for the final 41 contests.

The Raptors will have 21 back-to-back games this season (up four from last season), with a high of nine being a road game followed by a road game.

The Raptors will release their 2009 preseason schedule in the near future. The team’s 2009-10 local television schedule will be released at a later date. For the fourth consecutive season, all 82 Raptors games will be aired nationally in Canada. At the present time, the Raptors have one nationally televised game in the United States, January 15 at New York on ESPN.

Raptors season tickets are available by calling (416) 366-DUNK, while single-game ticket information will be released at a later date.

Home opener with Cleveland and western road trip starting with LA, Spurs, Dallas, Denver then an eastern road trip with Miami, Boston, Orlando and Detroit.

By the way , we would demolish all those teams.

I always feel like we have the longest road trips and the most back-to-back games. Maybe that's just me being a homer, though...

I was joking with that schedule though, but you know Stern.

If the schedule favours the raptors, change it.

You know, every team has to go out to play San Antonio, Dallas, Denver, Boston, Orlando and the Lakers. No team is exempt from playing them, so whether we play them early or later, if we're a good team, or aspire to be one, you gotta win a few of these games on the road.

i just hope we get a really easy first 2 weeks.
this team needs confidence and if we can start off hot, hopefully we'll generate some cocky arogance.

we started off 3 - 0 and beat the Hawks and the Magic (i think) and look how we finished!! we have to play them all so the order shouldn't matter! trial by fire is often the best way to infuse chemistry and trust in the a team... maybe we will get 20 on the road, then 10 at home, then 21 on the road then the last 31 at home...

every team has extended road trips, ask the spurs about their rodeo trip annually... good teams find ways to win those games... and that is what this team will need to do to compete as we think they will...

BRING IT ON STERN!!

Im really pleased withj the last 3 months of the year for us. It may start off a bit tough, but if we go into the playoffs as a hot team anything can happen and we can make a solid push for the 4th spot.

And obviously we hav ea better shot at beating the better teams at the start of the year vs the end when their lineups are set. I like what I see on first look
