Raptors After Posey?

Apparently Stephen A. Smith said on his ESPN show last night that the Raptors are pursuing Posey too. Highly unlikely that we'd be able to get him, but how awesome would it be if we could? :)

Take this for what it's worth, but Stephen A. Smith (yes...him) on SportsCenter today mentioned Toronto as one of the teams that are after James Posey. We'd obviously have to go over the luxury cap to sign him, but he mentioned that he wants a 4 yr. deal, and that the Celtics as of now, are offering only a 2 or 3 yr. deal. I'd expect him to re-sign w/ Boston, but you have to wonder if that one guy who posted a rumor that BC would be given the go-ahead to go over the luxury tax...might be on to something here.

That would be a fantastic signing and bring us ever so close to where we need to be. And we don't have to give up much in terms of bringing him here.

Stephen A Smith? My guess is this is just an idea that popped into his head while he was on the air, and being Stephen A Smith, he expressed it as fact...loudly.

"NOW LETS TALK ABOUT THE TORONTO RAPTORS. YOU'VE GOT BOSH. YOU'VE GOT O NEAL. YOU'VE GOT CAL-DAY-RONE. NOW JUST WHAT DOES THIS TEAM NEED? THEY NEED A DEFENSIVE STOPPER. AND WHO IS THAT DEFENSIVE STOPPER? LETS TALK ABOUT JAMES POSEY. IVE BEEN TALKING TO SOME PEOPLE (Swag note: not likely) AND THEY THINK THIS COULD BE A DONE DEAL. IT HAS TO BE TRUE BECAUSE I'M YELLING IT SO LOUDLY"

Imagine that in a Stephen A voice and I would think it's pretty accurate.

It would be a great pickup though.

the thing is, he's probably right ... I'm 99%+ sure that Bryan made inquiries about Posey, he would be a fool not to. But our chances are very slim for a variety of reasons. The main one is probably that Bryan wants the chance to see how this team plays a full season. With Garnett and Allen you knew they would be a contender right away. With our team, anything goes. If Bargnani explodes and O'Neal plays like he used to, and we stay healthy, than we could make some big waves. However, if Bargnani turns out to be flop and O'Neal will be just a shell, than we'll go the opposite way. Until we know where we stand, it would be foolish to commit long term to a player who's main purpose is to get conteders to win titles.

I hope this is true!!!

I would like to have him on the squad, great defender and a half-decent scorer. He would fill a need at the SF position but I don't see BC committing to four years for him

Ain't gonna happen. He apparently just signed with the Hornets. :(

I would go freakin' nutso if that happened! Damn you SAS for making me even think about it. Actually I thought about it quite some time ago and then quickly realized it wasn't happening. So Damn YOu SAS for suggesting it could happen!

I really like that deal for the Hornets.

Not necessarily the salary or the years...but I think he's a phenomenal addition for them.

I also like it for Posey. Longer term than he would've got with Boston, and he goes to a situation where he can be a real difference maker on a championship caliber team.

not sure if that's the right move for them. They were very good defensively last year too, and Peja was fantastic on offense in the playoffs, where does Posey fits there? I think this only puts more pressure on them after next season when they will have to pay big time for Paul and West, and in a market like NO it's doubtful they can go in luxury tax territory. If they lose west because of this, than it's a major screw-up ...

POsey's another guy who can knock down corner threes. You can never have too many of those with Chris Paul driving and kicking. Not to mention this move gives the hornet's more depth as Peja is injury prone, as well as some solid perimeter D. Nice move in my estimation. I doubt they'll lose west or paul. they'll ante up if they're winning. and if these guys are winning, and they like playing for byron scott, why leave?

Apollo 07-16-2008 10:39 PM

I don't care if its true because he won't sign here anyway.

Major 07-16-2008 11:13 PM

Guys.....Posey's with Hornets now....why are we still talking about him in TO ??
