The Toronto Raptors are 9th in the leaugue in attendance just behind the LA Lakers averaging 18,844 per home game. Pretty good attendance for a team that has stumble out of the gate, especially at home.

Thought jersey woulda been further down.
And Boston higher up!
I guess blowing every team out isn't as entertaining as having a nail bitter once in a while?

But how many of those 18,844 actually stay until the end of the game?

How much does this have to actually do with the size of the arena? Cleveland's arena is damn small while most of the league plays in hockey arenas.

You say that like your surprised. I'm not surprised at all. The Raptors have an immense amount of support here in Canada. Just look at the hundred's of active Raptors message boards out there. The proof is in the pudding and if anything considering our team's turmoils I'm happy to see that fans are still going out there to support their team.

I think being the only team in Canada helps.. If there were say, 5 or more teams in Canada, the Raptors wouldn't have as many fans

I'm not the least bit surprised. Although after one month of the season we were 6th. I'm actually surprised that we're not higher. Raps have a great fanbase. Proven by the nearly 17,000 we used to average when we used to struggle to win 30 games for about 4 years prior to BC coming in 06.

I have noticed a worrying sign over the last few weeks - and that is a half-filled arena, even though many of the empty seats were likely paid for. The beginning of the season showed real promise for increased fan interest. I was next to a guy and his kid for the first home game vs GSW that went into overtime, and they were ready to sign up for life at that point I think. It's just too bad they weren't able to capitilize on that kind of feeling. And I just hope that the sudden disinterest isn't something that grows any further. Unfortunately the sports biz needs more than the relatively large number of rabid fans - it needs to see large scale interest of all sorts and a general desire for most everyone to want to associate themselves with the team. Hopefully they can start to recover that sooner rather than later - as in 2010 or beyond.

Come on ... you can't be serious. Toronto ... our version of New York City. Look at how long the Leafs have been shitty for and they still continue to sell out. Albeit their an historic franchise, but even if there were more Canadian teams you think the millions that live in and around the GTA would travel to cities like Montreal or Vancouver to watch games live? Whether there be the 1 team here in Canada or 5, we most certainly would never struggle with attendance. If we're getting this much support during troubled times like we are now, we most certainly can take on any other obstacles. It doesn't get any lower than we are right now.
