Raptors 2013-14 4th seed?

Quote:
The Lakers have Blake, Farmar, Young, Meeks, Wesley, Hill, Sacre, and Kaman on their roster. I was kind and assumed that Pau and Nash were 1 and 2 for minutes for the season. I have Kobe coming back early. It doesn’t matter; that is a freaking travesty of a roster. The Lakers are the worst team in the NBA by a country mile right now and are the odds on favorite in tankapaloza 2014.
The Knicks, oh the Knicks. Felton, JR, MWP, Melo, and Bargs; never has a lineup with less shooting conscience come together. The Knicks are the YOLOVoltron. Never change, James Dolan.
Sacramento, Phoenix, and Orlando are not far behind.
The Pelicans, Blazers, Celtics, and Sixers all have young rosters with potential and could go either way. No way to tell if they quit on the season. Ditto for the Bobcats.
Indiana is hurt by their lack of depth in this model which flattens minute allocation out on purpose. When I do my modeling further on in the offseason, I’ll make their lineup more top heavy in minutes and that will move them up to the 42-47 range as an average. Nevertheless, age and depth are a huge concern for this team. Not a lot of margin for error.
Minnesota and Golden State are two peas in a pod. They have porcelain rosters. The model is very, very, very wary of going top heavy in minutes for either team. Both could get into the fifty win range or drop like stones. Golden state is getting killed in particular by their lack of depth at the five and four.
Brooklyn is really, really, really old. They also have a very tricky roster. I suspect they’ll figure it out on pain of death, but I also think their final win total will depend on how bad the tanking gets. They’ll be a a better playoff team.
Denver and Dallas are afterthoughts in the West.
Lots of scrappy young teams in the East: Sixers, Celtics, Bucks, Hawks, Raptors, Pistons, Wizards, and the Cavs. I suspect the 4th seed fight will be the Hawks, Raptors, Pacers and Wizards. I think that the Bucks, Pistons, and Cavs will be the eight seed fight. Don’t trust Bynum’s knee yet.
Memphis, Chicago, and — surprisingly — Utah look to be the second tier contenders.
The top of the league is really crowded with some tremendous teams. The Heat and Spurs, though a year older, will still be there at the present. The Clippers are better and want to inherit the throne. The Rockets look to be on the verge and may in the future.

If he wrote this article based off the stat 'wages of wins' then 'wages of wins' is complete horseshit.

Where is this even from. When a team starts being referred to as YOLOovo, I began to question the sincerity of this article. If not sooner. :mattyd:

Yeah, that site is the looniest stats thing i've seen. You should check their player breakdowns. Basically, they think that Calderon will be a better player than Dirk next year. Biyombo is better than Pekovic. Etc.

WP is pretty skewed, but can tell you stuff. It's just dangerous to use as a catch-all, like WoW do. WS is more stable, though using a combination of PER, WS, WP and RAPM is the best I can usually do.

For this particular article, they are using some seriously messed up minutes per game numbers, and their projection seems way off because of it. Using WP or WS comes out at about 45 (WP) and 41 (WS) wins using last years' minutes played (prorated to fit 240 per game). So, 7-8th seed. Delightful.

Wow. Who is this guy... remind me never to take this guy seriously.
" The Lakers are the worst team in the NBA by a country mile right now and are the odds on favorite in tankapaloza 2014."
Sorry didn't know Gasol and Kobe equate to worst team in the NBA... They'll get into the playoffs, maybe 2nd round- depends on injuries and seeding- but worst team and tanking? Jeez. That's just true hate and loss of objectivity. And the 'suspects for 4th seed' was laughable. Can't take this guy seriously after hearing that. But that's just my opinion on his take.

Hmmmm... Nope. We are going to suck and if we do make the playoff it just because the east is fairly weak at this point.
Miami, Indiana, NY, Chicago, Brooklyn, Cleveland are all better team than us.
We will compete though with Atlanta, Detroit, Charlotte, and Washington, I can't say at this point that we are going to be better than the rest of the 7th -9th seeds.

The Lakers part could very well be true.
No Dwight.
Kobe and Hill both coming off serious injuries.
No guarantee that Pau / Nash / Steve Blake will be healthier, it may be the opposite.
And they've lost a couple of decent rotation players from last year.

So, are Kaman and Nick Young supposed to get them to the playoffs?

They'll have to overachieve health wise to make the playoffs. Most likely they are high lotto team.

I sure hope so! I think we did make some nice moves but overall I think we are still aiming to 8th seed, maybe 7th.

Colangelo gets his 3rd because it's mostly his players. And then he gets hired by the Knicks.

I hope not. It would be too much like Colangelo's first season here, with a team over achieving in a weaker EC.
