How the hell do you build a contender and still stay under the Lux tax mark? You need to spend to contend, its pretty obvious in todays NBA....just look at salaries

1. Los Angeles Lakers
$91,569,659
2. Orlando Magic
$89,139,596

3. Dallas Mavericks

$87,056,125
4. Boston Celtics

$83,790,759
5. Denver Nuggets

$83,020,059
6. Utah Jazz

$75,785,355
7. Houston Rockets
$74,581,719
8. Atlanta Hawks

I'd argue though, that even through spending some of those teams are now facing some financial difficulty.

Utah can't wait to see Kirilenko go and his massive salary. Houston is tied to the Yao Ming contract but were are they going? Denver is shedding left right and centre.

It's about spending wisely and considering what may happen in a new CBA, I'm kinda glad we're not overspending right now. I like to point out at the NHL lockout and look how many of the high spending teams struggled immediately while a lot of the mid tier teams had success.

Not that impressive to be honest because we have a pretty big city, and it's our nations only team. Imagine putting an NBA team in Hong Kong or Beijing, just one team. now lets say this team is dead last every year.. i can guarantee that they can sell out nba arenas double the size of standard ones, every game

Not that impressive? A team that has pretty much done nothing in it's 16yr history, having the fan support it has and being as strong as it is in a market where most american player don't want to play in. I beg to differ.

Well we are the only basketball team in Canada so that has to be something. But lets remember the last couple of years we had a "franchise" player in Bosh that sold way more tickets than pasta boy (andrea) and his crew will ever sell. if we keep on loosing like this, we will drop. But hey times are good, lets sign melo.

Really, being in Vancouver makes more financial sense than being in Kansas City, St. Louis, Baltimore and even Vegas.
+1

There is more money there than many places, they have a good sized population, only 1 of the 4 major sports there. They were ruined by bad management their 1st go round. But look around now. Even if the dollar went down to 75 cents, it would be better than some of these other hopless situations.

Vancouver Hornets would sound great. We are due for a team here, and there is a market. It's a lot different here than when the Grizzlies were here, a lot more fans.

When was the last time a Canadian city even got a second chance in Hockey, let alone any other sport other then Ottawa in the CFL?

When there is an owner who is bleeding enough money, he's going to have to ask himself how many situations are better than that one. There is a reason why the average home price in Vancouver is $680,000. They can more than afford a team. Don't hire Stew Jackson as GM and don't pick Big Country Reeves next time in the draft.
