Default Raptor fans who love to watch the games on cable beware of a new tax.

Recently Rogers notified our customers (which include many of you) of an additional charge that was added to their monthly cable bill, effective September 1, 2009, in order to finance the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF). This fund has been established by the CRTC, the government body that regulates our industry, to provide a subsidy for smaller market television stations.

I am now writing to inform you of yet another broadcasting policy proposal that is under consideration by the CRTC.

After rejecting it twice, the CRTC has reintroduced the idea of having a fee-for-carriage: a payment to Canadian over the air broadcasters that could ultimately end up costing cable and satellite TV subscribers between $5 and $10 per month!

The proposal is being championed by over the air television networks such as CTV and Global. These networks also own highly profitable specialty channels, such as TSN and History, and therefore overall are financially healthy.

Furthermore, the CRTC has suggested that if the cable and satellite distributors don’t go along with the fee-for-carriage scheme, the television signals of American network stations, (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and PBS) which we have distributed since cable TV began, will be taken away.

This “fee-for-carriage” proposal is strongly opposed by Rogers and all other cable and satellite distributors.

We urge you to assist us in opposing this initiative!

To do so you should contact the CRTC before September 14.

Simply tell the CRTC what you think of the idea of “fee-for-carriage” by clicking on this link: Broadcasting and Telecom Intervention/Comments Form
Then Click on the 2009-411-3 under the heading “Notice # / Deadline Date”.
Select the "Comment" option in the drop box.
Fill out your comment.
Follow the remaining instructions until you are done.
You may also contact your Member of Parliament by e-mail, regular mail or telephone. MPs always appreciate hearing from their constituents.

This “fee-for-carriage” proposal is a bad idea I pay enough for cable as it is I don't see why I should pay television stations more money to help them air shows I can watch already on american channels.
I is not fair to me as a T.V. viewer to be forced to watch a certain brand or to be forced to pay an extra tax!!!

If you get time or want to make sure you don't have to spend 5-10 dollars more a month please go to the link on the CRTC website and have your voice heard the site is slow right now cause thousands of people are trying to do the same thing right now.

Rogers are the evil one ... CRTC asked the cable companies to support the cost not to increase the fees to customers. Anyway, Rogers charges too much and they screw us last year with TSN2. Stupid Rogers ....

It was actually CTV Globe Media that did the screwing...CTV Globe Media wanted TSN2 as a individual station that you must order by it's self & rogers wanted it to be included in there HD sports package CTV Globe Media did not want that so it's CTV Globe Media that was doing the screwing in one quick move they screwed us into paying an extra fee to watch TSN2 get your facts straight.
Rogers although not as cheep as Bell Express view overall, gets better service & is trying to do there customers right...CTV Globe Media was trying to make the extra buck & in the end they did, cause Rogers had to give it to them.

Why should we pay more to the TV stations when we already pay for Cable???

For instance when CTV airs So you think you can dance America they have to purchase the rights from FOX I believe in order to air Canadian Commercials during the program...Why should we pay extra to CTV or Global cause they don't make enough money to cover the cost's for that show, when we can just change the channel to FOX and get it for free?

It's not my fault CTV & Global have shitty Canadian TV and don't get any ratings why should I have to pay extra to them?

CTV already gets extra money from me just for TSN2.

Don't you understand for real, for real, for real, CTV & Globals standard canadian channels aren't making enough money so there getting the CRTC to force Rogers to get us to pay for it Duh?
