Raptors RAPTOR FANS IT'S TIME TO FIGHT BACK!!!

Calling all Basketball fans!!! (Raptor Fans in particular for the purpose of this post)

Ok people, we've seen the horrible reffing in the last couple of games. (who's kidding for the duration of our franchise.) Yes we all know that we don't have a NBA championship team yet... we're rebuilding, etc. But that doesn't mean that our team isn't working their butts off and that they don't deserve fair calls!

It's time to do something about it!

I propose we organise and do something about this reffing to help out our team. The coaches, players, and GM can't do anything about the reffing because they're handcuffed by League rules... but fans are completely immune to fines, and NBA discipline.

So, If you're going to a Raptors game, and want to bring a sign... forget about the we love Calderon, Weems, DeRozen, Bargnani,....etc... signs. (at least for the next little while) Instead bring "We want fair Reffing" or "HOWZ about a Call Ref?" or anything along that line type of sings. (Be creative.. I wasn't particularly ... use of graphics are definitely supported.) The next game I'm going to a game isn't tilll march... so if you're in the Toronto Area and heading to a game.... represent.

Lets stir it up! At least make refs call things fairly. Stop the ridiculous "STAR FOULS" and "Big market team" fouls! Hey I don't mind if they call arm grazes as fouls... just call it a both ends!!! Seriously stop it with the creative foul calling refs!! Just because our teams in Canada doesn't mean we don't know the rules.

Believe me if there's enough signs in the crowd... the cameras will catch them, and at least the nba will have to address this problem. Lets make them know we're watching them.

(CUT AND PASTE THIS IN EMAILS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW... or Tweet it!)
Lets do something!!!

ICE out!

this is a good idea.... however i have a feeling it could just backfire and result in even more garbage calls.

(on a side note. People need to stop going to games with TSN and Sportsnet Themed signs. kinda screams of desperation....)

Agreed... if I see Leo, cut to another "Rautins rocks" sign... ... well... um... ...yeah... so.... um... I'll pretend to do something completely dramatic and then... not follow through.

I'm wondering if you guys watch games other than Raptors games.

These calls happen all the time. It's no conspiracy; it's human error.

I actually watch virtually every NBA game, ( I have the NBA game package)... and PVR games I'm not watching live. Any given night I watch a minimum of 3 games, and watch highlight packages of the ones I miss or don't get.

Believe me when I say this... NBA reffing is biased. NBA Stars get calls... nobody's don't. That's not human error. The same thing happens to other teams around the league as well, without big name stars. It just happens I'm writting this on the Raptors forum. The only human error, is that refs are human, and because of that they have built in basis. For example... Bob Delaney, this guy hated Rasheed Wallace. If you go back and watch the last 7 years of his career dating back to his portland days up till his last year with the Celtics... he got more technicals and fouls called against him from him, then any other ref. Also, my least favourite ref, Violet Palmer (no not cuz she's a woman.)... this ref gives Kobe Bryant more favourable calls then any other ref in the league. (all the while gushing we he talks to her.) Seriously just watch any Laker game she's officiating.

I could go on... yes REF's are human... they do make human errors. But when they're as dramatically one sided as they've been of late. Almost a 3 to 1 call ration of free throw attempts. (and you can't tell me DeRozen's not slashing through the lane!) Or if you go back to the NBA championship finals that the Celtics won a couple of years back, and check out the reffing in that game. (they won despite the REFS) You'll see some huge discrepancies. Conspiracy's are usually hidden.... this is just blatant.

though you're definitely are entitled to your opinion.

lol... yes... yes I do.

I just substitute basketball instead of watching stuff like Grey Anatomy, and Sex and the City, kinda works out ok though... cuz it's... well sports. Though I could really round out that tv schedule of mine by throwing in a bit more Football. (Go PACKERS!!!)

violet palmer is the worst ref in the league, most of the bad refs go by the crowds reaction which is ridiculously frustrating to watch

Even old retired refs, have a hard time watching todays refs. Including the fraternisation going on.

This video includes everything, from interviews with past refs, and current coach George Karl. Including a really telling story about Dick Bevetta.... everything from him bringing cookies to an NBA coach, and chumming up with players, and coaches.)

Honestly, it's a must watch.
if you've got 10 minutes check this out.

P.S. Now more than ever I really wish Leo Rautins would stop calling Dick Bevetta a great ref!!!

Quick, foreverice, is there an unmarked van parked across the street? It may be disguised as a "Pizza" van. If so, it's already too late.

Consistantly one-sided bad calls is just an error? Wake up!

The NBA isn't sports, it's entertainment now. Every day we tune in to watch a game the only thing we don't know is which team is the Harlem Globetrotters and which one is the Washington Generals. (That's why I prefer Olympic Basketball or College ball.. less BS.)

You know how Refs in the NBA are rated for performance? The teams rate them.

You tell me -- if you have a high rating from LA and a low rating from Toronto. Where's your Ref career going?

I especially like how she coo's about Kobe Bryant as she refs his games, asks for his autographs and likes to spend her free time waiting for him in the gift shop.

Even stalker's can be refs in the NBA.

Well I'm not the type to make fun of people... so I'll just say this. Huh? Seriously dude, I'm on a low carb diet... why would I even care if there was a pizza van? Now if it were a sushi one.... hmm maybe there'd be something there.

Youz one funny sob though.. keep going with the hilarity though for everyone to look forward to. I appreciate the effort. Kinda like watching someone without teeth bobbing for apples.

(you just got served.... Or as South Park might say... "F'd in the A@!" lol... )

(sorry ... I actually don't really care about your post... but I thought I should reply with something. You're entitled to all the pizza jokes you can write. I love freedom of expression.)

Not so much of a pizza joke as it was a play on your apparent paranoia. Actually, it wasn't a pizza joke in the very least. But through reading some of your threads, I've concluded that your deduction skills are beyond admirable. And thus, you're probably right; it was a shot at your weight.

Well... between this unreasonable thread and the callous and defensive nature of your response, you've given me no reason to believe that said response wasn't genuine.

I'm just going to say one more thing... cuz well it's late, and I won't check this again tonight probably. Well I guess first to those who've polked fun at me... no harm no foul.. go for it. Express yourself. That stuff doesn't bother me, and it's always good to have varied opinions. Though I hate the mean spirited vibe that I've observed in other peoples posts. I didn't take any of it that way... more of a response of the "oh brother... another conspirasist." type.... which is acceptable.

Anyrate with that in mind... this isn't conspiracy theory. Many journalists have covered and done story's on discrepancies in NBA reffing. (Skip Bayless for example...) The only solution, is to make the NBA ref's accountable to a separate entity that evaluates their performances. Not the NBA itself, because it's a huge conflict of interest. How many of you know that the NBA refs are actually in part graded by teams themselves? Now lets be honest and delve into the human mind for a moment. If you're a ref, (or a person) who are you more likely to want to do favours for... the cool in crowd, or the geeky losers? Well LA, New York... they're the cool crowd... we're the other. Especially in light of the fact that pretty much every ref is American... it's not to say they are all bad. Yes, there is human error that takes place... but there's also subconscious biases, and that's what needs to be monitored. If a ref keeps being one sided towards particular teams, and an outside source that evaluates them deems that to be true... that particular ref can be dealt with. It also works as a deterrent.

I can't believe that some of you people refuse to question things? It's mind boggling how you can call someone a conspiracy theorist for mentioning the huge reffing inaccuracy's in various NBA games, yet not question why the NBA keeps on coming up with more rules to restrict players, managers, and Organisations from expressing themselves... like this years "respect for the game" rule, which has already been shown to apply to everyone except team stars. If you want to live in a fairytale happy land, where you don't see the blatant corruption go ahead... pull that toque over your eyes. Let me just say this... all those games that "Tim Donaghy" reffed.... initially the NBA association backed up every single one of his calls. Even though some coaches took fines in the press booths afterwards. It was only when he got caught by a government investigation that David Stern said he was a rogue exception.

Oh yeah, and if you watch American politics... they are debating about whether or not PRO sports refs should be monitored by a government agency. (This mostly due, to the huge connection between sports and gambling.)

Alright peace out!

P.S. it's good to see the Rookies getting some playing time... Davis looks to be an easy double double for his career. Even if it's only 10 and 10.
