Raptor Conditioning Not Up To Snuff!

When a team has trouble sustaining any intensity in the second half or for a whole game you have to question your conditioning, or lack thereof. When the defence, which is all about "energy" is slow and unenergetic, you have to question a lack of conditioning also.

Long road trips with lots of games are big conditioning sappers. You lose any edge you may have gained in training camp. When you have a short bench, other than your top six, you are losing conditioning each game you play. Games only improve the endurance of anyone maybe lucky enough to get 35-38 minutes, everyone else loses. Injuries have also lowered our endurance level since camp.

So sometimes, to improve your conditioning you have to gas your players in practice "EVEN IF, it means you may lose a game because of it"! The benefit you gain will payoff in a big way, in the next games therafter.

The alternative is, to not do it. But than the risk is, you lose several games in a row instead of just the one. The whole process keeps repeating itself and you end up with a lousy unenergetic team with a crappy record. All sounds alot like our Raps for a couple years now. These guys are professional athletes, all they need is a day off once in a while to recoup, no matter how hard you push them.

Defence is pretty much, all about energy. It takes alot of endurance to drive it. We use what limited amount we have, in the offensive end. Hence there is little left for defence. You have to improve the endurance in order to sustain, both ends of the floor. That is the only way to get rid of the listless efforts at both, one end of the floor and during whole parts of games. Until our team's endurance improves, i am certain, we will continue to underachieve!

We have shown we are capable of playing some good defence in spurts and earlier in the season, even in a whole game! What we haven't been able to do, is bring the endurance to sustain it!

Nice post, but to sustain intensity you need to at least start with some intensity. Our team has none to start with.
