Default Raps willing to trade everyone except JV

Quote:

The Toronto Raptors are prepared to overhaul their roster under new general manager Masai Ujiri.

The Raptors are evaluating how their pieces fit, but nearly every player can be made available except for one.

"Anyone but [Jonas] Valanciunas," said one source.

Rudy Gay is making nearly $18 million this season and can opt out in the offseason, making him an intriguing candidate for the Raptors to move. DeMar DeRozan is on a new extension given by Bryan Colangelo, while Kyle Lowry will be a free agent in the offseason.
Source Raptors Open To Trading Anyone Except Valanciunas - RealGM Wiretap

Quote:
Even at this Week 1 juncture, there are strong indications in circulation that Toronto is exploring its trade options rather vigorously in hopes of constructing a roster that can finally halt a five-season playoff drought.

Already, yes.

The Raptors, I'm told, came into camp with an open mind under new front-office boss Masai Ujiri, willing to even consider an extension for Rudy Gay if they liked what they saw.

The strong sense now, though, is that the Raps are prepared to trade virtually anyone on the current roster if a suitable offer presents itself.

"Anyone but [Jonas] Valanciunas," says one plugged-in source.

I never considered them trading to get better for some reason. I keep thinking trade to be shitty or stick it out.

I don't see MU dealing assets for a couple picks and expirings.

Know @ESPNSteinLine says Raps want to end playoff drought w/ trade. Also know no one covets Canadian Andrew Wiggins more than Masai Ujiri
Mods, we really need like a thread just for tank/trade tweets.

This makes sense on a number of levels. You should always be willing to listen and part with portions of your roster if you think you'll benefit. Doesn't really mean we're going to 'tank'.

+1. Still, with the way many GM's operate (boneheaded moves), it's still worth hearing from our GM. It's reassuring.

Chad Ford is such a tool. He piggybacks a story and tweets absolutely nothing. What's the point of speaking about something when you just contradict yourself 2 seconds later? Are the Raptors looking to make a trade to make the playoffs, or make a trade to go after Wiggins? Terrible.

I don't think the two propositions are at all mutually exclusive, or anything new. They will keep an open mind, and be open to any opportunities that arise.

If BC had the same approach this team would have been in a good position much sooner.

If the Raps keep winning and are in the playoff run, do the Raps trade established players for lottery picks or young players still developping?

I'm a little surprised to see that there's no chance we deal JV. I really like Jonas but if we got the right deal for him (I'm talking top 10 player) I would have no issue with it.

No I think they're just saying he's the most untouchable player but yeah if a deal like that came along they'd likely do it.

I do. MU is not going to blow this up sky high for a couple of picks and expirings. TL said last week that he had confidence in MU to make a deal to get a star player here (can't remember where I heard that, but I know I heard or read that.) I think he'd be willing to trade KL/RG + ? to get a star PG or SF to play with DD/JV and then they'd be poised to somehow go well into the tax by signing other players. IMO they have 18 months to really aggressively upgrade this team before the rebrand/All-star game/20th anniversary season.......which is when they want to be really good.

They aren't going to go really young and hope that in 2 years we're just ok enough to sneak into the playoffs when all that comes to a head in the 2015-16 season.

I'm with you. I like JV a lot, but I think the organization is starting to overrate him. LeBron is untouchable. Durant is untouchable. Rose is untouchable, etc. JV should not be.

Look at last year. Apparently we had a Harden for JV & package. Presti got a "Hell no". Idk about you guys, but I would have took the deal and ran away with it.

I think the person most under scrutiny is Casey. MU wants to assess if Casey is the coach he want's going forward. Any moves MU will make are going to have to fit to the coach of the team. If Casey is the man, he'll look to bring in players that have certain attributes.

If he decides to change coaches, then the players he'll go after would probably have talents that fit the new coach.
