Raps wanted to offer the pre-season game for free to the fans

I know for a fact the Raptors tried to convince the league to let them offer the game – Dec. 18 against Boston – for free but were rebuffed.

Dopey league.

Now, I’m not saying at all that one free exhibition game would assuage the feelings of all the fans; it is, after all, a first exhibition game after about nine days of practice and I don’t imagine it’ll be at NBA Finals intensity or skill.

And I can imagine the league figured ‘well, there are some markets where the teams could use the cash they’ll get so we can’t let one team do it and not others’ but why not simply make ever pretend game in every city free?

Who’s it going to hurt?

No one.

Huge fumble on the NBA’s part, in my opinion. You know my feelings on pre-season basketball as it is, I cannot imagine anyone forking over cash to see it under these circumstances.

pointless.

Or it was like last night's episode of the Office, and they went to the league and said they wanted to say they hoped they could offer a free pre-season game, but under no circumstances should the league allow them to do so

i was thinking the same.
a free game is a free game.
are you so dumb you can't even see when something is good ! whatever the idea behind it, it can't hurt you to go at this game, and see the team you love play for free.
oh, if it's a problem, i wouldn't mind they come and play the game for free in france. LOL !!!

I don't see anyone ripping anything. I was just pointing out what a marvelous pr exercise it would be to ask the league for something they weren't ever going to get. And it was just a flight of fancy on my part, because I do find it hard to give them all that much credit.

What's keeping them from taking the gate and buying sushi for everyone in attendance? Or a tshirt that hasn't been costed out with some ugly ad on the back or sleeve?

damned if you do damned if you don't....what else is new.

Wtf? It says that the Raptors wanted to offer one, but the league refused. They have control over these kind of things?

most likely doug got it wrong or something

I don't even think the league has a say in this, every team sets their own prices according to their plans. And last I've heard, we're making a shitload of money anyway, it's not like we're revenue sharing recipients.

Personally though, anything that lowers the BRI, makes me very happy. Both the owners and the players get 50% of a smaller pie.

if teams share some of the gate receipts for NBA games then the league has a say... since they share revenue with all 30 teams
