Default Raps trade up to pick #5?

Doug Smith reports on the availability of Washington's pick and if the raps can get it.

Quote:
According to league sources, the Wizards are trying to shop the pick and if, for instance, they trade it to a team that wants a specific player not thought to be in the top 10, it could knock down a player Toronto finds desirable.

But with such parity in the 15 or so players that could go No.5-20, there might not be many takers for Washington's spot; teams could get the kind of player they want by simply waiting.

Toronto already has worked out a handful of players they might consider at No.9 and, according to team sources, no one has established himself as a "must-have" selection.

DeMar DeRozan, a 6-foot-7 freshman swingman from USC, is expected in today to at least meet with team officials, and he's a player sure to be on Toronto's short list.

But so, too, would be the likes of Memphis guard Tyreke Evans, UCLA guard Jrue Holiday, Wake Forest forward James Johnson, Arizona forward Jordan Hill or Duke guard Gerald Henderson, any of whom might be around at No.9.

League sources insist Colangelo is open to some kind of transaction most likely acquiring another pick rather than divesting himself of the No.9 choice this time around.
The #5 pick gets us closer to Derozen and Evans, but there is also a chance we can get James Harden.
Any Thoughts?

It's good if they can play immediately. Don't want Bosh's last year to end up as a re-building year with a lot of young players initiating themselves to the NBA level.

IMO Rubio and Evans will be available at 5, and possibly Harden as well. But i agree that we should probably stick to the number 9 pick and then aquire another pick (late 1st rounder).

Tough call though.

Ah..we wouldn't need to trade up to secure Derozan..or Evans (word is recently that he's falling down the board)

Rubio there at 5? I'm not so sure about that. Even if some team trades up to draft Rubio, he won't be there at 5. Neither will Harden. He'll be gone at 3.

Ahhhhh, that`s horse shit. I can`t see Evans being there at 9. Derozan probably. And imo opinion i would take any one of Evans,Derozan,Holiday,Henderson and even Jennings with our number 9 pick. So unless we get a really good young player in return i wouldn`t even want us considering trading our pick.

Word is Rubio could fall out of the top 5 because of his buyout situation and his lack of enthusiasm for playing in a bad market.

The one place I could have seen him going to definitely is Minnesota, but apparently the T'Wolves are going hard after Stephon Curry, the Warriors like Flynn and I can't see the Knicks picking Evans (they'll probably go after Jennings, Holiday - or Flynn if he's there.. or possibly Derozan themselves)..so Evans very well could be there at 9.

It's called a smokescreen. No one is going to pass on a talent like Rubio because of his buyout situation.
He's expressed his interest in Sacramento..so he'll probably be there.

Boy i hope you`re right, because if we could have the options of Derozan,Evans and hopefully Holiday.....we`d be in good shape.

But in the end, I do think we're gonna end up with Holiday.

they're saying this in the nhl and nba.they're saying that other teams are scaring away the islanders from drafting john tavares by saying he's a bad skater.which if you watched canada's fifth staright jr.s championship you know he's not and there is talk about blake griffin not being picked number 1 or there was because people we're telling the clips he's overrated and he isn't very good perimeter and crap. it's a bunch of bullshit. if these guys do fall down to number 9 good the raps can get one of the pieces they need. if these guy's don't fall and bryan and his advisors don't want to take the chance and they dont get to draft one of the guys they need. then do everything you can first without getting rid of your pick to move up to that 5 or higher spot and if those teams won't bite. then start shopping your 9 pick to them. problem solved

Very possible imo. The last mock draft i looked at had him going 18th to Minnesota.

Really? That's kind of low.

I'm hoping that we draft Hill and deal him to the Mavs for Howard. That would be my ultimate dream.

I doubt Jrue Holiday drops past 10, but everybody after number 3 seems to be drooling over guys like Evans,Harden,Hill, Flynn,Derozan,Curry and we haven`t seemed to hear anything much about Jrue holiday lately.

The only big man left would be Jordan Hill... basically a weaker Bosh. But I do like Butler. Sign & trade Marion for a C.. please

A lot of mock drafts have Holiday at the end of the lottery like 12-14. Some I have seen even him dropped out. Holiday sits behind, Rubio, Jennings, Evans, Curry and Johnny Flynn in PG position. Tyreke Evans can play point and he proved it Memphis. I don't know why everyone in this forum is soo high on Holiday. I'd take any of those guys over Holiday any day.

Harden is defianately the player we should be taking if we move up in the draft to the 5th pick. Araujo proved BPA is the way to go guys...
