Raps still interested in Jonny Flynn

Quote:

If Rubio does indeed sign as expected, point guard Jonny Flynn's days in Minnesota are numbered. Sources also indicated to HOOPSWORLD that Flynn is almost sure to be traded in that case with the Toronto Raptors being one of the most probable destinations. There could be some competition for his services as the Charlotte Bobcats and Detroit Pistons could also use some help at the lead guard spot. Flynn is a first-class individual with incredible character, but he hasn't produced as hoped in Minnesota and Rubio's arrival makes him expendable. At the age of 22 he still has some upside and his price tag is not very high at all.

This came up before as well but that was before Bayless started playing so well. Why would we go after him now, right now Bayless has more upside to me.

I'd hang onto that dude if I were the T-Wolves. He was all banged up last year, I wonder if he's still injured?

Thug 05-14-2011 07:55 PM

If we could get Flynn without giving up one of our key pieces like DeMar, Ed, Andrea, or Johnson, then I would consider that a great trade.

Don Vito 05-14-2011 08:08 PM

I don't see any reason we would trade for him unless he comes off the bench. Bayless > Flynn in every category.

Don Vito 05-14-2011 08:19 PM

I also saw in an article...

The above report cites Toronto as a likely home for Flynn. The former Syracuse star had expressed interest in suiting up for the Raptors.
I guess this goes to show people actually want to play on this team. Raptor fans are given the delusion that no one wants to play here, which is bullshit.

How many unrestricted free agents that the raptors have had have re-signed here without being overpaid? How many big name free agents have signed here without being grossly overpaid? I can name very few from both.

DocHoliday99 05-14-2011 08:37 PM

I would take Flynn - IMO he still has a lot of upside.

That's because there's a bit of a inferiority complex in regards to this team. They also tend to badly overrate or underrate the players on this team, but I digress. Flynn is ok, but we have Bayless.

EggsToTheBBQ 05-14-2011 08:53 PM

I would love to see someone from the Toronto/Buffalo area on the team.

Minnesota is a tough team to trade with. There's no one on their roster that has a salary even close to Barbosa or Calderon, and those are the guys the Raptors would want to trade.

I think a Flynn to Toronto deal would need to involve the Raptors sending a pick to the T-Wolves... Probably not going to happen.

The other option is a Bayless for Flynn trade.

Bayless for Flynn doesn't make any sense. Bayless is worlds better than Flynn.

Hell no Bayless is better. I would do it if it was Calderon, maybe another team can be brought in to make it work. If they get the first pick and they're willing to talk trades I would be interested.

If we get Flynn for a reasonable price (package including Calderon and Kleiza?) then I would consider our team to have one the best young teams in the L. And if we could also draft Williams, boy oh boy. :dancing:

Scully 05-14-2011 09:39 PM

I don 't see how this makes are team better. He is the worst guard regardless of Team (Raptors or Wolves). Undersized, poor #pt shooter. I would rather trade for Ridinor or keep Josie.

moujik 05-14-2011 09:54 PM

It's Flynn and his crop that exposed Jose's deficiencies on D. I like Flynn. Flynn and A. Randolph, who I wanted here for a long time and whose development is hampered by Beasley, are welcome in TO!

js12 05-14-2011 09:56 PM

I don't see how we can get Flynn without giving up one of our young core. I don't think Minny will want our other players. I don't see a deal happening without giving up a solid piece.

Read the blurb in blaze's post. It clearly says Minny isn't expecting much for him. A realistic deal would probably be Barbosa for Flynn. They're under the salary cap so they can take on salary and Barbosa could probably start for them. Plus he's an expiring. The Raps could probably get him for a piece of the TPE if Minnesota's really desperate to get rid of him.

Hmm maybe. If we don't draft a point guard then he'd be good off the bench for Bayless.

js12 05-14-2011 10:18 PM

Minny ain't giving him up for nothing.

Even if they don't need him, he can still attract valuable returns. He still has a lot of potential to develop into a star.

Valuable returns? Nope, if they get Rubio he will be a 3 string point guard.. his value is nothing.
