Default Are the raps overachieving?

Raps are currently 14-17, 6th in the eastern conference, and 18th in the association. They're on pace to finish 37-45.

Did a quick review of raptorsforum posts summarizing predictions from NBA posters.

Rosen: synopsis: raps suck; may not make the playoffs

4. Raptors (36-46) - Everyone's darling in the Atlantic somehow made one of the softest rosters in the NBA even softer. Take a look at this starting lineup: Calderon, DeRozen, Turkoglu, Bosh, Bargnani. None of them can spell defense. They brought in Reggie Evans to add some toughness from the bench, but we all know that's a myth. Don't buy the hype on the Raptors.

Marc Stein via ESPN Eastern 14; 20 in the association: Raptors 33-49

HoopsWorld.com Power Rankings (Sept 22 2009): 13th Eastern Conference

There were some very optimistic posters as well...
NBA Primetime: 2nd in Atlantic, 45-37

Maybe we should all be happy?

Interesting thoughts, good post. I'm not sure if we should all be happy, but maybe we shouldn't be so surprised.

One thought I have to add is that there are many ways to end up with 37 wins, and the way the Raps have been doing it so far has been disappointing in and of itself: we either get blown out or blow the other team out.

On the plus side, the fact that we're 11-0 when we hold our opponents under 100 points could potentially bode well for the playoffs, where the game slows down. If we make the playoffs, that is.

If its a choice between playing poorly to start the season and improving vs the inverse, give me the former.

No. The Raptors are not overachieving. The numbers of wins needed for Eastern playoff standing is ethereal.

Really can't be happy unless Raptors get over 500 and 5th place.

There is too much talent on this team to not get at least 42-43 wins and challenge for 5th imo.

What up macs!!

Forget the stats and preseason expectations - up until this point I don't know how anyone can't say their net feeling about this team is anything less than disappointment. It's been hard watching this team at times. Do I think they can turn it around? Definitely.

Added the post cause I remember us complaining about how the raps got bad reviews for 09/10 season. Kind of sad that our expectations aren't being met, but interesting that the "experts" are more correct than we are.

I thought that the team needed a good 20 games to settle in. At this point, barring a miraculous turnaround on team defense commitment, this team's going to have trouble getting out of the first round... and, they may make the playoffs, but that doesn't mean they're a playoff team.

I've only experienced a brief bit of disappointment, mostly revolving around Triano not incorporating any changes when it was so clear that something was needed.

As for the pace they are on - that is deceptive. The second half should be much better for a number of reasons. If not, then I'll feel disappointment.

Raps beat weak teams, fold on stronger teams and struggle with mediocre teams that have a star player. Nothing new.

I disagree. They have beat and competed against strong teams. They fold on back-to-backs on the road, especially when there is a brutal schedule, and struggle when Triano fails to make the necessary adjustments that might hurt somebody's feelings, or match a reality that his GM would like to not recognize.

I really want to skip the Bobcats game and move onto Boston game and see where this team is at; but whatever Bobcats comes first and we must get our payback this Wednesday
