Are the Raps games blacked out on NBA League Pass?

I didn't subscribe this year, but in years past the Raptor games were blacked out if you were in Canada since all the games were televised here on TSN or Sportsnet. They blacked out the locally available games. If you're subscribing from outside Canada and viewing from a computer outside of Canada, then it's my understanding that the games are not blacked out.

There used to be a way around it, though. In order to avoid a blackout, you can set-up a proxy IP address or something. I'm not sure what the technical term is. Basically you're hiding your Canadian IP address. I know some other people here did that, so maybe one of them will come along and elaborate. I figured I'd put it on your radar just in case none of them comment. That way, you can google it yourself if need be.

I found Vancity's old post providing some advice regarding using 3rd party providers to mask your IP address. I thought I'd had this conversation before, I just couldn't find it right away. If you want to do that, here is the link:

It can also be useful for getting the US version of Netflix, Hula, and that sort of shit, I believe.

I tried to stream through some proxy sites and it was just far to slow to be enjoyable - might just be my set up?

I don't have TSN2 or the Sportsnet equivalent, but I'm now used to waiting until the games on these channels are finished and watching them on league pass afterwards.

The two TSN2 games from last Thursday were live on league pass which really confused me because I was under the impression any games aired on Rogers/Bell were blacked-out.

All you have to do is download a good proxy software, connect to a fast proxy, and then once you're logged into LP, reconnect to your own connection instead of the proxy and you can access the Raptors games with your regular CPU speed. I've done it the past few years without issue.

There's a plugin for Firefox and Chrome users called Mediahint that unlocks Netflix. and Hulu in the States, and can work on LP depending on your location. VPNs can be pricey for streaming as you've got to purchase bandwidth with them.
There's a number of third party hacks for iDevices that can turn off location services. I've found the best is to just wait until the game finishes, make sure the scores are turned off on league pass and then go from there. You can skip ahead through breaks and quarters if need be, and is a more economical use of my time.

Most free options will have poor speeds, drop connections, etc. I have a VPN subscription via goldenfrog.com which I use for Netflix, Hulu, Comedy Central, etc. which I highly recommend.

Proxyswitcher. I bought it a while ago for 30 bucks(lifetime thing, not yearly). Never had a problem.

games are generally blacked out for the city the team plays in because every city has a cable channel that broadcasts them for a price so the NBA can't just broadcast it to that city for "free"
