Raps Have Their Eyes Set On Wilcox?

His name has come up a number of times over the years and it looks like their looking at him again.

I watched him in a couple games this season and he's a player that seemed to have a whole lot of talent and comes across as very under-rated. Would there be any way of getting him with anything we have to offer?

Graham H, Toronto

Doug: Time zones it was.

I know there are people very high up in the Raptor organization who like Wilcox very much and would love to see him in Toronto. I also know the people in Seattle are quite high on him, too, and itd probably take a larger deal than simply Ford for Wilcox to get anything done. If he goes, the Sonics really dont have a four to replace him.

I think hed be a good fit witht Raptors, actually. And with one year and $6.75 million left on his deal, hes pretty affordable.

Question is, do you think he'll be OK coming off the bench when we pretty much already know that Bosh and Bargnani will be starting in our frontcourt next season?

F that, i'd pencil him in as our starting C.
and knowing smitch, even if Bargs started the season at C, wilcox would soon replace him after a few weeks.

Whatever INSIDER ... don't you realize that Bargnani's our "franchise" and won't step aside for anyone?

Wilcox would likely sit and rot on the bench as long as Bustnani is in Toronto or as long BC is GM.

I like Wilcox, but it would take something like TJ and a 1st for him. And I'd want this guy to sign long term. He's tough nosed, nice offensive touch and can clean the glass nicely.

Why on earth would we want another PF?

Can we try and make him a centre too?

I have no problem putting Wilcox at the 5. None at all.

The difference between a C and a PF is quite significant. As much as I like Wilcox and what he brings you have to be sure that he can make that transition quite easily. Otherwise, you're gonna have a guy who's just simply playing out of position and is not playing up to his capabilities.

Remember the pounding you take as a Centre is more significant than what you receive as a PF and if you're playing out of position what does that do to your body over 82 + games?

Again, I'd much rather target Collison since he is a Centre and is just as tough nosed as Wilcox.

plus - wilcox had some TJ moment this season. He started the year by claiming he is all-star worthy (which in the western conference is a laughable statement), then he got into some arguments with the coach about his playing time, and stuff like that. If we can get him for TJ, than fine - it's a good trade. But don't break the bank over him, he's not worth all that much.

I'd say Collison is as much of a 4 as Wilcox. Bigs are pretty much bigs these days. Sure he would have to be played differently in different matchups, but it's not like we don't have guys that can play true C's if need be, or at least share the load. If a guy like Varejao can play the 5 a good amount of time, then Wilcox should be able to as well. And the fact that he could possibly be versatile enough to play either spot, together with the versatility of Bosh that way, could be very beneficial. If he's being brought in for his toughness, then playing the 5 should not be a problem. And added to his toughness is his good mobility in help situations, his length, and athleticism. This could be just the kind of under-the-radar deal that would do wonders.

Wilcox would be ok at the 5 in the East, its basically the same thing as Mcdyess in Detroit, the problem is Wilcox just got arrested AGAIN for gun possession and we all know BC loves the character guys.

That and Wilcox is a dolt on the defensive end.

Update: Wilcox was arrested last Saturday in North Carolina and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, the Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Wilcox was a passenger in a car driven by another man, who was booked on the same charges. "Chris has made us aware of the situation," Sonics spokesman Tom Savage said. "We are in the process of gathering more information and we'll have further comment at

Update: Wilcox, a day after complaining about his offensive involvement, scored 16 points Friday, but he wasn't that much more involved in the offense

Dude has baggage too.

Hmm.

Averaged 7 boards a game.

Bargnani averaged 4-5 on no legs, no sleep, and pretty much bad health all year.

You guys should be a bit more patient.

As for being a dolt on the defensive end - that can be fixed. He has the tools to be a good man-on-man defender, and within a defensive system that has already taken some shape, unlike what he has seen in Seattle, he could really find his form.

The gun thing maybe shows that he's a dolt in general though, so maybe he's just a no-go. Or maybe he just needs a good change all the way around.
