Well, making room for someone, that's for sure - either an outright signing or a trade that sends out less players than come to us.

The Raptors are going to try to either move the veteran guard in some transaction or release him in the next week and a half, according to a team source.

Carter served his purpose in a 37-game stint with the Raptors, providing some veteran leadership and filling in as an emergency third-string point guard.

But a desire to use even more youth and wanting to let Carter see if he can hook up with a playoff-bound team if he’s eventually released, led to Tuesday’s move.

The source said there was no one moment that precipitated the move – Carter’s missed the last three games with a stomach muscle problem – and that Carter had done what was expected of him in helping “change the culture” around the team.

Nor should the move be seen as a precursor to any other move; the Raptors are still not expected to be big players leading up to the March 15 NBA trade deadline.

However, if they can find a taker for the 36-year-old Carter and get some kind of asset in return, a minor transaction is possible.

The move also gives the Raptors an open roster spot but there was no indication any move was imminent to fill it.

yeah, carter's playing time can go to....................forbes. lol

we only play 9-10 players per game most of the time as it is.

I don't buy that no other move is coming. Why cut a guy you have to pay? Now they have to worry about Jose or Bayless getting hurt (neither would shock me). Unless he's asked to be let go, then i just don't buy it....what would be the point in a season like this?

He looks really old on our team, but he has looked serviceable in recent years..... just hard to imagine him back at that level. I have no doubt that he helped our team this year though

second, apparently you still don't understand that thread about keepers. i said 'could keep', not 'must keep'. that thought seems to be backed up in this story.

there's no way we waive Carter because we don't need him, that was obvious since before we signed him. this is clearly a move to make roster space since we're maxed out. Which means either an upcoming trade, or a d-league signing.

The bit that puzzles me - why Carter? Why not Forbes or Alabi, for that matter?

Forbes is still under contract next season, and Alabi's day of rekoning is coming. Lol

Maybe a deal is in place that gets us a PG. What could we get if we package Barbosa/Calderon? Lol

If BC is in the right mind we should sign a pass first pg or at least someone who distributes the ball well and is capable to play PnR. That should filter our options quite a bit?
