That's pretty good, I remember the Jazz were listed as like 30/1 last year

Mavs definitely aren't being given enough credit, they could make a trade deadline move and be right there.

20-1 isnt going to generate much action. Only crazy fans will throw money away at those odds. If I was asked before I saw this, I'd say we were 50 or 100 to one.

Way too many things have to go our way to even compete.

20-1 are horrible odds, I think even 100 to 1 is too low. I would think that Toronto or Philadelphia have something like 3-400 to 1, and a team like minesotta should have 1,000,000 to 1 (even then I woudn't bet more than 10 bucks ...).

Too bad you can't bet "against" ... I would bet $100,000 (if I had it) on Toronto NOT winning the championship this year (at 20 to 1).

As a Raptors fan, I would get so much more satisfaction out of the unlikely outcome of the Raptors winning a title if I knew that somebody like you had dropped 100K on them not collecting rings. I'm a journalism grad so I'm not great at math, but I'm pretty sure that betting 100K at 20-1 odds means you would win 5K if you win the bet. If you could afford to wager 100K on something so ridiculous, what would 5K in winnings be worth to you?

I think his math is crazy, not yours Scott.

He wants a payout of $2mill (20 X $100K).

To win 5K, the odds would be 1-20.

It's goofy anyways.

the math was correct - and the point is that those $5000 is money in the bank, like a gift. So yes, even if I had 100,000 to bet, I wouldn't be rich enough to pass on a $5000 gift. After all, that's what the betting companies do, they're betting 100,000 to win 5,000. All I'd want is for me to be allowed to do the same thing.

Just for conversation....

You would tie up $100K for 8 months to make $5K ? Thats roughly 7.6% interest.

I can find you a 10% GIC somewhere.

that's a good point
although I doubt you can find a 10% GIC anywhere, at least not with a major financial institution. And GICs will tie up your money for even longer than 8 months.
