Default Ranking the Centers in the East

Quote:
5. Andrea Bargnani, Toronto — 2008-09 numbers: 17.6 PTS, 6.1 REB, 1.4 BLK, .559 TS%, 14.6 PER
'Twas a tale of two seasons for Andrea. His first 31 games were putrid and the "Bustnani" catcalls seemed inevitable, but then Jay Triano stuck Bargnani into the starting lineup for good on Dec. 31 and he became a new man. Over those last 47 games, he averaged 19.1 points and six rebounds, shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from beyond the arc. OK, that rebounding number was still pretty lousy — that's the next aspect of his game in which he needs to show drastic improvement.
It's based on Scott's expectations for the coming season rather than past performance.

I'm not sure why Yao is appearing in some of your rankings. These are just the starting centers in the East. Also, isn't Yao out for the entire season? These rankings are based on how I think they'll perform next season, so Yao wouldn't be on the list even if it was for the entire NBA.

Yao Ming plays in the Western Conf. - see "Ranking the Centers in the East"

DarkKnight - injuries (and returning from) is part of the forecast. Doesn't assume that everyone is at 100%.

did you rank them according to the stats they might get next season or the way they will impact their respective teams?....

Bargs should be number 3 and Joakim Noah is a huge wad of c*rap. He should be at the bottom with Kwame Brwon and Darko 14 and 13 respectively. When you've got a grown man shooting like an inexperienced eigth grader, you've got a problem. I would gladly take Darko or Kwame ahead of Noah.

Both. Stats are taken into account, but Perkins isn't a "stats guy" for example so I rate him on defence and how he helps his team win. I'm sure Boston fans would be outraged that I ranked Bargnani over Perkins, but you could probably replace him with a healthy Brendan Haywood and the Celtics would fare just as well.

I love how polarizing Noah is. Non-Bulls-fans really hate that guy. I happen to be a Noah fan, personally. Did you watch him in the Celtics series? He was amazing. Yeah, he can't shoot but that's not unusual for a center. He does other things really well: rebounding, help defence, ball-handling (for a center), passing, shot-blocking, etc.

I'm expecting bigger things out of Al Horford right now. This is his year to take that next step.

tssk...Brook Lopez will not be great in the league. Highly overated on a shitty Nets team. Though Scott, where is the love for Rasho

I would take haywood before andreea this season, but not horford. This will be the season when people will realize that all the hype about horford will never materialize. Horford still lives on the good rookie season, and at some point people will realize he's not going to improve on those numbers. Bogut is a good player when healthy, but when is he healthy?

but really, hibbert over dalembert? Really? He might be a bit of a nutcase, but he's still a monster block/rebounder. THe only place where hibbert has a fighting change is blocks, but at his foul rate, it's impossible to stay long enough on the court.

All my position rankings are for starters only.

Hibbert's a pretty smart guy and he wasn't all that foul-prone in college, so I think he'll get it more under control this season so he can play 24-30 minutes most nights. Also, Hibbert actually has a halfway decent set of post moves, unlike Dalembert.

maybe, but it's not like hibbert is tearing it appart on offense. When I've seen him, he mostly shot jumpers, but I didn't see much of him, maybe he's no always like that. In any case, he's not a great rebounder for his size, and he's nowhere near dalembert in defense. He would have to be a fairly good offensive player to offset that imo ...
