Rafer's Toronto Issues Weren't With Sam, But His Teammates

Interesting .... at the time most of us thought Rafer's issues were with Mitchell and how he was coaching the team, but according to Doug in his blog today he reports that Rafer's issues were with his teammates primary Rose and Vince.

Rafer's a headcase no doubt, but I like that he had issues with players who performed with a "half-baked effort". ;)

Have had lots of questions about Rafer and his play of late and if he could have become that player here.

Quick answer: No.

But Skip was the topic of more than a couple conversations during the trip, especially after his game against the Lakers and I learned a couple of things.

Raferís biggest problem here wasnít Sam, it was his teammates, including one J. Rose, who used to make little subtle cracks about players being in new roles here and wondering whether they could handle them, and one V. Carter, whose on-again, off-again effort caused Alston much grief because, Iím told, Skip was as competitive as they come and he couldnít handle half-baked effort.

Of course, Alston wasnít nearly mature enough to handle either of those situations, which led to a couple of memorable meltdowns. He bristled at coaching sometimes, another sign of immaturity, but to his ever-lasting credit, heís grown up a lot. The fits of anger and petulance are few and far between these days.

I know Samís impressed with the way heís turned things around.

He doesnt know what hes talking about. We talked with Skip at EBS and he said the issues were with Sam even though he wouldnt go into further detail. Doug Smith is becoming like Sam Smith this year, what a joke.

"Nets and Raptors are gonan be better than the Celtics!!!!" - Donut Dougy as he slams his 42nd donut of the day.
