not to be a party pooper but why cant we just tank one more year for jabari/wiggins. Trade rudy for something good and I think we meet the requirements to make the playoffs. Lets be realistic, even if we make the playoffs this year we arent getting out of the first round.

Well said. It depends on what the roster looks like but yeah. I really do not want to see this same squad get thrashed by the Heat or whoever is #1. Now, if the squad were #6 somehow in the East then they'd probably put up a fight and might make it (ie. they'd have a shot). But #6 would have to equate to everything going the raps' way and a lot of teams above/around/below the raps' level messing up.

This thread just shows how insane our fans have become due to years of watching this horrible excuse for a franchise.

How can anyone want to make the playoffs this year with the roster as currently constructed???? It's great that we'd be back in the playoffs and get to experience the playoff atmosphere again as fans, but you also need to be realists and know that if we happen to make the playoffs with this awful roster, we're going to be a 7th/8th seed, and get destroyed by whoever we play, and at the same time get a mid round pick in the loaded draft. Essentially we're going to be Milwaukee of last year, and we're giving away our opportunity of becoming a CONTENDING TEAM quicker, because you're out of your damn mind if you think this core is going to produce anything positive.

After watching the first 3 games, I would have expected everyone to be on team tank, but I guess everyone is still trying to block out the obvious by telling themselves that a 2-1 winning record actually means something. It'll be funny to see how many fans switch their tunes over the next 3 weeks when we're playing 75% of our games against playoff teams this year. Then in DEC we'll be facing the West 8/14 games, and NY/CHI 4 times.

We're not making the playoffs not only because our opening schedule is brutal and will bury us, but because our roster sucks.

Again, I dont blame you for wanting the playoffs because you're blinded by the past, but face the facts Raptors fans.

Blind optimism isn't good for you.

perhaps you don't get my position. I'd want that (6th + up) or the tank essentially. And given how unrealistic it is to get 6th, then the tank it is.

Pretty much this. 7-11 is the worst case scenario

Concerning above statements, basically, Ujiri needs this team to not overachieve.

There are a couple of ways to create buzz by 2016. Either pick up stud draft picks a la OKC and have people dreaming about what they will become some day or go ahead and become a contender through management moves.

If they play that tough stretch of games and come out above .500, he may be stuck. How does Ujiri spin the "I'm a karma guy and you have to always try to win", if you trade guys on a team that is winning?

Having said that, in his own quiet moments, I don't think he thinks this team can dominate, so he is waiting to see who's coming along to Disneyland when they make heir big splash and who is getting shipped to Minnesota.

If they overachieve the assets will be that much more valuable. It won't mean that ujiri won't be able to make trades. It will mean that he can get more of what he wants out of those trades. That's not being stuck at all. It gives him a real chance to do his job. He will have to be patient and smart and maximize those assets.

I'm more concerned about overachieving in terms of wins. I'm starting to think those of us on Raptors boards are different than most Raps fans. I keep talking to people who have no problem with treadmilling if they can get in the playoffs. Like they'll feel betrayed or something. Fans are going to have to accept having the rug yanked out form under them after they invest.

Everyone O.K. with youth, scrubs and veteran hangers-on for the second half of the season? I'm not taking odds, but I'd prepare for some pain.

I think the biggest part of 'tanking' very few people seem to consider is that we're not just going to dump anyone's salary (Masai said that himself last year) which means that we'd be receiving players, (I highly doubt we can squeeze an unprotected first from ANY team this year) some of which will have decent salaries, and that means we'll be getting some good role players at the least.

Are those players magically going to contribute nothing or play at worse than replacement level PER? I think not. And therein lies the point; trading Rudy, DeMar, Kyle, Amir or any combination thereof may result in less wins, but it won't result in no wins, and that means we'll still end up being a late lottery team at best. Personally, and I think objectively, a first-round exit is better for the team than the 10th-14th pick.

In the last year or so the treadmill has become painfully apparent as the worst place a franchise can be, but all the GMs are aware of this and that means that despite the fact that we'd be the ones shipping the more highly talented players, we'll constantly be low-balled because they know how badly we want to be bad, without looking like it, and Masai won't make a trade for the sake of making a trade... it goes against everything a GM stands for. Unfortunately Masai was dealt a very poor hand coming in and he's really in a lose-lose situation this season and for the foreseeable future.

Tanking proper is for the teams who dealt players away in the offseason, for picks and for rookie contracts, and started the season with a fresh fate to sell the city on.

at this point though, I'm not even sure if the proper way to tank is to trade gay and demar since their replacements may just play better. Last thing we want is to be like Philadelphia

just get rid of lowry who is having a decent season and give DJ the keys to the team, play JV for 40 minutes and enjoy the tank ...

This is a tough situation. Some people here said we will have easy games and we can easily make the playoffs. Thus far all 3 games were tough. Reality check? Time will tell.

Can't we just let Amir shoot summer time threes all game and see what happens?

I am too lazy to search but I clearly remember one of the mods saying we will have easy games while others were on the playoffs bandwagon.
I really hope we can compete and be fun to watch, but so far I have some mixed feelings about the team.

some were saying we should be battling for a 6-8th seed... that sort of implies that there was a feeling that we should easily be getting in...
