Pressure on Colangelo with the 5th pick

Pressure on Colangelo, Raptors to make good with No. 5 pick | NBA.com

Interesting read.

Remember BC mentioning the financial benefits of picking No. 5 instead of No. 3 after the lotto in Secacus, New Jersey last month. Do you think Raps wouldn't mind paying $500K for the chance of getting their top guy Brandon Knight. BC is a straight-up salesman.

On a 2-3yr deal, the pressure is on him accross the board. (IE: Draft, capspace, trades, new coach). It's now or never for him.

I think it's being overstated that Knight is their top guy. With as much confusion/uncertainty there is regarding the top ten, it makes sense to have that little extra cap room given that any pick isn't likely to be a game-changing piece.

Superjudge 06-21-2011 11:13 AM

I think it's effin Comical that ANYONE thinks they know who is top on ANYONES list.

Period.

definitely the pressure is on BC to make the right choices. The fans for sure are on his ass. But MLSE gave him possibly a last chance to make the organization promising, if his decision signing Casey (i think it is a good one) or the 5th pick doesn't work out, he'll be in deep doo doo. This pick for sure is way the franchise will be heading.

The more i read about guys on this board talking bismack, the more i think it'll probably happen. We've always wanted defense, and bismack seems like a better candidate... But still I want Kemba...

If it's between Knight and Walker, there is a definite spread of opinions with regards to which player will have a better NBA career. Both have their shortcomings and "potential", as we all know by now, is largely writ on water.

I don't believe Raps quite know whom they are going to pick. A lot can change at the top of the draft, with Utah and Cleveland "holding the keys", so to speak.

I think Bismack at the 5th spot is way too high, but I won't be surprised if we deal with another team to pick him for us. I think BC is on the hot-seat since regardless who we pick he will need to make a move or two with Bargs, Amir or Davis and with JB, Jose and Barbosa. If we pick a guard, our PGs are on the block, if we pick a big man our front court is on the trading block. I have a feeling Davis or Amir will be gone.

+1

That would be nice. Walker or Knight + Biyombo would be a good night.

And now when DC is our new head coach I won't be surprised if he is going to implement the Mavs system. Which may be drafting Walker (as Barea) shifting Bayless to SG (as Kidd in the playoff) DD as Butler, Bargs (as Dirk) and a Center via FA. Which means we may draft Walker, which I am okay with.

The scary things is we might draft Bismack Biyombo to fill the Chandler role. It has been reported that Casey was there in NY to see the workout of Bismack.

Drafting Walker and deal Amir or Davis for Bismack sounds reasonable, if this is the model they follow.

I try to stay away from trades as I dont know much about how they work in detail or if they could work... but

If Bargs is getting traded do you think his value holds up in somehow getting the 2nd or 3rd or 4th pick for him? Maybe add some fillers? on either or both sides?

Just a thought

I think that Bargs haters will have to suck it up for a bit. I think BC and DC think they can teach Bargs D... and I won't be surprised if he gives a good season. I think they take Dirk as the model for Bargs, he was also not great on D in the past.

Don't we have 3-4 Bismacks already.... stiffs that can't play the game????

I like that he's a freak and all, but all accounts are that he simply can't play basketball. Thats kind of a big deal isn't it???

i'm almost certain BC is looking for someone that can come in and contribute from the start, he's fully into the rebuilding with the youth but i think most of the raw talent players are already on this team, i'm pretty sure he's going for someone that can play right now and that player's growth will be at a more advanced level than at a fundamental basic level

we already have enough of those guys in my opinion, and this contract he's on a tighter leash so he's going to play is safer, i'm almost certain he's looking at the PGs in the draft, he's only picking from the other positions if walker and knight are gone

If BC wants immediate impact on the team it must be Walker. If he wants to gamble, he better pick a euro...

No, he can play. The difference between him and say, Diop and Sene is that he has legit experience playing at a high level in the ACB. He's also got a way higher IQ than either of those guys. He's not ever going to be an offensive player but he can really rebound and affect the game with his presence in the middle. He deflects a lot of shots too. I don't think he's worth #5 even in this draft, but I don't think he'll be a bust either.
