PP is more physical, a much better defender, and goes down low more often than Marshall. He reminds me a lot of David West but with more range and athleticism, although not necessarily as good of a rebounder. He needs to get a bit stronger. If he sticks around in Toronto, I could see him eventually starting at the 4 spot with Amir coming off the bench.

With the new CBA, I think a player like him can be signed to a good short term contract, like 3 year 12 million with a team option on the 3rd year, which would be ideal I think.

I'd love to see us let Tyler go and pair Ed Davis WITH Patterson off of the bench. It'd give us awesome versatility in the frontcourt with those two, as well as Amir and JV.
Problem with Ed is that he cannot play as C and Pat cannot as well (only against smaller ones that are more pF than C's). Can't say that Tyler is much better but for a short stretches he can push pretty fine with strong C's.

I don't get this "PP vs. TH" discussion. They are totally different players, having different uses in different situations. PP is a more well-rounded one, that's for sure, but the big men rotation of JV, Amir, PP and TH is pretty good, with Chuck ready to come in and help in case of an injury.

Toronto Raptors’ Patrick Patterson finds the right fit with new team

Quote:
Patterson has quickly forced the issue, to the point where Casey acknowledged he is essentially posting “starter’s numbers” as a reserve. He is averaging 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per 36 minutes in his first 15 games. Patterson is shooting 50% from the floor as a Raptor, and the same from three-point range. It is not just the shooting. Patterson struggled early with his shot on Saturday against Brooklyn, with his lack of offensive polish in the post showing quite clearly.

But he wound up playing 28 minutes — more than Valanciunas — because of his rebounding and defence. He finished with a double-double, and the Raptors scored 40 more points than they allowed when he was on the floor. His pairing with Amir Johnson, a similar player, has proven particularly successful.“Every time I go on the floor I want to make sure my defence is great and my energy is perfect and I take the game to another level whether I make shots or whether I don’t,” Patterson said. “I don’t want to let that affect my defence.”For Patterson, the trade might have come at an ideal time. Unless he accepts the Raptors’ one-year, US$4.3-million qualifying offer, he will be a restricted free agent.

There is still a lot of season left to play, but Patterson has shown he is capable of being part of a tight rotation on a winning team. That might not help him break the bank, but it is certainly a better alternative to looking lost in Sacramento.

He simply plays the game the way everyone wished Bargs had played when he was here.
