Power rankings: No big changes for Raps

NBA.com- 17. Raptors

Quote:
Pace: 94.6 (17), Off: 113.1 (1), Def: 112.0 (30)
Here's a question sparked by some talk on twitter: If the Raps continue to be an awful defensive team, does that hurt Chris Bosh's value as a free agent? He's putting up great numbers this year, but shouldn't a max player be great on both ends of the floor?
NBA.com: Hawks putting it together, while Lakers plummet

ESPN.com - 15. Raptors

Quote:
The most galling part about Sunday's narrow loss in Phoenix -- besides wasting the latest good game in Chris Bosh's best-ever start -- is that the Raps' much-maligned D made the Suns work so hard to get to 101.

Middle of the pack...cool, but I really hope we can move up in the inconsequential, pointless rankings as the season goes on.

Middle of the pack after having played Cleveland, Orlando, Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix.... I can live with that.

Exactly. Like i said earlier .500 with this schedule with 10 new players, i'll take it. It's tough to look back and think of the Memphis game and the fact that we probably should be 6-4 though. All in all, a good start.

Nine new guys, tough schedule, guys coming off injuries, etc. All things considered, I'm very happy with how this team has come out of the gates. If the last two games are any indication of the type of defense this team is capable of playing, we'll vault up these standings when our schedule softens up a bit.

Well, if you ask me, they had a much better chance of winning last night than in Memphis based on how the actual game was played.

Unfortunately, there are no do-overs in sports...

It is pretty cool to have the number 1 ranked offense though...at least to me. When was the last time we were number 1 with anything

We're exactly what Colangelo envisioned when he came here and put his stamp on this team. We're Phoenix East.

does that mean a one-and-done is our best case scenario?

I actually think this team has potential defensively...it's just going to take time.

These kinds of changes don't happen overnight. It's a bit easier when it comes to offense because we have so many talented scorers who are for the most part unselfish, the adjustment is minimal.

Defensively though it's about trust, understanding and habit. These guys still don't know how to effectively play defense throughout the course of a game and I'm quite confident actually that we'll bring it together by the 20 game mark.

As I said before if we come out of this month at .500 I would consider that to be an accomplishment considering some of the teams we've faced/are set to face.

If we can be within a few games of .500 at the end of the month it would be a success. I think if we're around 7-10 or 8-9 i'd be happy with this schedule.

Well, this is our schedual rounding out the month.

@ Denver
@ Utah
Miami
Orlando
Indiana
@ Charlotte
@ Boston
Phoenix

I can see us beating Utah, Indiana, Charlotte...Miami to a slightly lesser extent too. The games against Denver, Orlando, Boston and Phoenix will be very important if we can steal any of those games we'd be in great position.

Just landed Stephen Jackson and they are heating up plus they play some active defense, odds are stacked against us.

To come out of the first couple weeks in the middle of the pack is a good accomplishment for a basically brand new team that still doesn't have a single very good defender in the starting 5. As they continue to gel, I can see this team sliding up in the standings (and the power rankings).

conference finals and probably a title with a tiny bit of luck and without unfriendly refs at critical times ...

even though we are nothing like the 04-07 suns, I wouldn't mind being that good for the next 6-8 years (our core is younger than theirs was).

Although I agree that we could be a much better defensive team. Bosh, bagnani and derozan are our core and they all have a chance to be very good defenders in a few years.
