Default The power of denial ...

After Bargnani is traded: this team will be better, addition by subtraction

Summer: we have a great core, we had such a great run to end the season, we're building a winner and there's no need to tank

After Gay is traded: this team will get even better, more addition by substraction (at this rate, if we ship fields and daye we'd have to be favourites to win the title ...). We're not tanking because the team is better

After lowry is traded: we had to do it, he was expiring, but we got felton who was very good 7 years ago and is unselfish. this team will be better now. We're most definitely not tanking, just getting more cap flexibility.

After we lose 15 of 20 games: damn casey, he's the worst coach ever.

after demar is traded for picks and filler: we all say it coming, we have to deal players at their peak. Still, now we'll be better because we got a really good defender. True, he can't score and hasn't cracked 15 mpg yet, but ross is more than ready to fill the void.

after we finish last: we didn't tank, we made all these moves to improve, they just didn't work. Hey, at least we got the #1 pick, so all's well.

just kidding, don't take it too seriously please

The denial is anyone thinking this team can tank to last without trading Lowry DD and probabaly Amir.

A top 7 pick is all we need to land a great prospect.

That may be true. But my concern is that we're gonna trade Lowry, DD, and whoever else, and end up with the 5th pick and an empty roster. Even if that 5th pick is D-Wade 2.0, there's only so much they can do if there aren't any other good pieces left on the team.

Guys...you can have members of your current core in addition to a top 5 pick. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Well that's the part that's up for the biggest debate, because I too would like to keep Demar and Amir going forward, but I think we could realistically finish right around 6 or 7 in the lottery, just by trading away Lowry and Hansbrough, as well as giving a little more playing time to our younger players, like Ross for about 30mpg, Stone 10-16 mpg as a backup pg, and giving Patterson some of Amir's minutes. Even the 8-10 draft spot range (probably more likely) isn't all that bad, as we still get the chance to move up from the lottery, and there are some nice players projected in there, like Noah Vonleh, or who could drop to that range (ala Drummond).

Thank god some of you guys also share that opinion. I've been on realgm expecting trade rumours the last two days and it's fucking disheartening how many fans have started openly supporting the trade of DeMar and Amir just for the sake of losing games, regardless of the value returned, in the hopes of what is a fraction of a percent of a possibility.

I'd rather be what the hawks were for a few years than mortgage the next three years trying to hit the ping pong bong. :therock:

Demar is getting us 23/4/3 and amir is throwing up some impressive number since gay left. This is DD's 5th year here, gets paid a fair 10 million a year and is really playing some impressive basketball (which shows his work ethic is as good as they come) this guy is still on the rise, and we trade him crossing our fingers the guy we pick can play better then this. DD is truing into possibly a top SG and he hasn't even peaked yet....or has he lol. what if this is not some fluke and the guy is actually good....I don't see why you would trade a top 11 scorer in the league whos getting paid 10 million a year for a chance at a top 5-10 draft pick.

My point was that we don't need to trade Demar or Amir, since a top 7/8 draft pick is good enough to add a great prospect in this years class, and reaching that range is certainly attainable without trading Demar or Amir. Hell, even a guy like Julius Randle has dropped to 7 on some mock drafts. A big rotation of him, JV and Amir would look amazing.

So some tough 1st round exits and some second round exits. Good to see the bar being set high.

Ill take a first round exit or two over 3-4 years developing whatever we have ended up in the draft. Its been too long without playoffs
And its not like there is a magic move that will turn you into contender short of signing three superstars.

...unless they ask to be traded because they are frustrated and don't want to be a part of 3-4 yrs of rebuild. Can you blame them?

With so weak eastern conference , Raptors have a chance to end up with the 8-12 pick even after losing in the 1st playoff round to the Heat

don't forget the following :

After we got the 1st overhall, he can't play more than oden !

After we trade Vasquez to salvage our team, JV ask for a trade and we begin a long journey in to the abyss of the NBA !

after 5 more season with no playoffs the team goes to Seattle !

Nope, once you make playoffs your pick is automatically 15th or worse.
