Default Dashed hopes...

When your expectations exceed the ability of the team, you are bound to be disappointed on a regular basis. I'm a realist and, given the quality of our players, I'm rarely confident of a win. What I hope for, is to be entertained and I usually am w/ this team. They play hard much of the time but lack the necessary talent to be consistent...so be it...I enjoy my "Raptor Nights" and look forward to each of them. I've given up predicting wins & losses as "surprise" is much better than the sure thing... :-)

Yes - as in a team. You make it sound as though it's all about having HOFers. This team is exceeding expectations, and it doesn't matter who is hurt or how many. Some rook comes in and outplays our best player, and it's not even a big deal, because that's what happens on a team. And none of those guys are going into the hall without that concept being successfully realized.

Few things I realised watching this game:
- Barbosa is a total moron. He should never, never, never be used as PG.
- Ray Allen is the most undervalued player of the league. You have to hate him when he plays against you, but you got to love his game
- Harrengoody (who?) is a player in NBA. And he is better than most of Raps big men.
- Ed Davis will never be more than a hustle guy of the bench (and even that is questionable)
- Big Baby is the best American flopper
- Kleiza should never touch the ball if he is not shooting. And he shouldnt shoot that much
- Pierce is a total bitch. He does nothing but complain to the officials.
- Shaq-daddy still has some game in him

You've got me sold completely on everything but your assessment of Davis. I couldn't disagree more with that one.

Whaaa... the guy missed training camp, the first month of the season and is averaging 6/6 off the bench in 20mpg. Look at what he's done when he's started. This kid is gonna be a good NBA player, just watch him when he's on the floor, he anticipates extremely well, his judgement and positioning is very good for a 21yr old and he's got a nose for the ball.

Im basing this on the fact that he has horrible shot and no offensive moves. Basically his shooting is so bad, that he will never become a shooting threat outside the lane. Its Shaq-like. But Davis is also too small to dominate under the basket. With his size he would need more skills in offense.

And Im not saying this because he played badly last night or something like that, I just started thinking what he can become, and realised that he can be a defensive role player and hustler at best, but not seriously a starter in a good team, because a good team has someone who can score at every spot, even if some of those guys are more concentrated on defense.

His defense is ok and he is a good help defender. Im not denying that. I just dont believe he will ever become that good overall.

Good points Rudy - but I'm not a proponent of every guy needing to be a scorer myself. I think he has a real chance to be an excellent defender, with good instincts around the basket. And he still has a chance to develop some kind of shot. But I'd still be happy if he had a somewhat limited game like a Chandler.

It really would mark a change in the philosophy on this team to make him a big piece of the puzzle. That is for certain. But that also gets me feeling pretty happy.

Im not saying everybody needs to be a scorer, but everyone needs to be able to score. No team is going to be great with a one-dimensional player like Reggie Evans who is not an option on offense on the starting lineup. While Ed Davis might be great influence for the team defensively (for now he is still too small and not really a great one on one defender in my opinion), its not good for the team if you play 4 on five on offense.

Most of the great defenders in the league that are starting for good teams also have some offensive moves or atleast they can knock down some shots. And most PF's can hit a jumper pretty well few feet away from the basket or from freethrow line when open.

With his shot mechanics being as bad as they are, I dont see Davis being any sort of threat on offense.
