Tough loss but I ain't mad at them. And I don't even like Triano but Kudos to hime and the staff. You can't win them all but you should this team should be competing with every team... they did today.
THANK-YOU.

My thoughts:

I love Portland. From their starters to their bench. Their only weakness is sometimes Roy, like Bosh, holds the ball too much instead of catching and going when theres an advantage off penetration. Hes always trying to be the one that creates when something is already created for him and he doesnt know how to react. Hes gotta learn how to play off the ball more if theyre gonna win a round this year.

Their other weakness is Oden isnt quite there yet, but one offseason with working with a good coach will bring him up to speed. Hes just gotta learn how to position and use his pivot foot better then itll be lights out NBA. He still played VERY well inside despite the 3/10.

Batum is going to be a very good player in this league, whether starting or coming off the bench. You can tell he just GETS it. Most rookies that come into the league cant fit in and play a role on a good team, but he always seems to be in the right spot and always makes the extra pass. Prince alike he is.

Fernandez is gold.

Now in terms of the Raps, we saw glimpses.

We seem to have these defensive pushes for 4 minutes every quarter where we almost look like a really good defensive team, then our energy dies down and the other team brutalizes us with blow bys. If we could somehow maintain the activity we'd be a top 4 team in the east.

Jose played much better this game. Its nice to see him getting inside and inside the defender and getting some layups.

Bosh played ok in stretches, but I didnt really like bringing him back in at the 3 minute mark. Oneal and Bargs were doing a really good job inside and we had a really nice flow going in that stretch. I think you ride the wave until Portland proves they can stop it, but whatever.

Its too bad we cant play Portland every night. I taped the game until 430 because I knew it had a good chance of going into OT.

I'm not disappointed with our team at all for the first time this year in a loss. I thought it was well coached besides maybe the ending, and our guys played very hard for the most part.

Oneal seems to have his biggest games vs the toughest interior defences. Bosh could learn from him. TAKE IT TO EM BIGMEN.

The Raps scored two points in the final five minutes of the first half. You could just tell right there that it was over.

I don't think effort has really been a big part of the equation this year for the most part. Nor poor defense, nor coaching. This game was very much like the game in Boston, or the game against the Nets. There's just not enough there to be relied upon, and the parts just don't seem to quite fit. They could be a nice defensive team or an exciting team on offense, but they can't carry over from good defense to good offense, or count on any strengths on either end when they need it, as much as we'll see nice things from different people throughout. It's the same old story. This team is what it is. I just hope they can still capitalize on weaker opponents by the time they finally see some.

How did Portland trade for Roy and Aldridge????

Their GM must see the future or something

They also traded for Rudy, who is pretty much a souped-up Carlos Delfino. Phoenix drafted him.

I wish we had him.

How can the game be over then, when we were leading with 9 seconds to go in the game? Blake makes that shot 25% of the time, at best. It was a tough shot (not as tough as Carter's though), coming of a scramble for rebounding which could have gone either way.

they did an outstanding job drafting, that's for sure. But don't forget that Roy, who was widely viewed as the best player of the draft, was a major injury risk. They took a chance and it payed off - but it was a very substantial chance, because Roy had multiple knee surgeries before the NBA.

If Roy stays healthy, the payoff will be fantastic, since he's one of the best players in the league. However, and I don't want to sound like I wish him anything bad, it's also possible that the year after he signs a 18 millions a year contract, Roy gets injured again and again, turning into another T-Mac.

Milk - that game should have been put to bed at the half. How do you not see that? Then it should have been put away at the end of the game. But it comes down to a scramble, and then just a horrible play that wasn't going to go anywhere. Why did it end up being another case of desperation? How was it that we did not have any control in the outcome at all? To me it looked like the whole game was predicated upon when the Blazers were going to exploit the weaknesses on the perimeter.

I don't think you can put a team like Portland to bed in one half, regardless of how well we're playing. They are right now a top 5 team in the league - teams like that don't get blown out.

That being said, I agree that the second quarter of the game was really bad. Our defense was good in the first quarter, and then it slipped visibly. One reason was Rudy Fernandez who was really good and he hit some tough shots, and had some nice drives too. But the game was definitely not lost there - it was lost in the final 10 seconds. Personally, I liked that we were able to come back from deficits twice, against a good, confident team, which we almost never do. We did come back against Charlotte this season, but apart from that I don't remember ever coming back from a double digit deficit and be in a position to win the game in the final second.
