I guess you could look at BC's 10 or so years in PHX.... These were his picks from 17+ (out of the lottery).

2005: Nate Robinson (21), Marcin Gortat (57) ---- traded to NYK and ORL

2003: Zarko Cabarkapa (17)

2002: Casey Jacobsen (22)

2001: Alton Ford (50)

2000: Jake Tsakalidis (25)

1997: Stephen Jackson (42) ---- waived after training camp

1996: Russ Millard (39), Ben Davis (43)

1995: Michael Finley (21), Mario Bennet (27), Chris Carr (56)

Except that, if we value Lowry over Calderon, then so would the Lakers, no?

Lowry would be a much better fit in LA than Jose.

The only reason I could see for the Lakers to take Calderon over Lowry would be to make salaries work in the trade. Calderon makes about $4M more per year, so if the Lakers need to take more salary to make a trade work he would be a logical option.

Honestly, that's not a bad track record there. Yeah, some busts but Finley, Jackson, Nate and Marcin are good finds.

Were Nate and Gortat his picks though? Or the teams that took them? And Jackson was let go.

Finley was the only good find there.

Nate and Marcin never played a game for PHX... and yes... Jackson was waived a few months after he was drafted.

no, because they're morons, only us can see the true value of players
so what if Calderon is older, makes twice as much money and doesn't play as well, he has a great assist to turnover ratio going for him.

wouldn't you say that's more of a coach decision? I doubt a GM will waive a player that his coach wants.

The history of players drafted outside of lottery is very shaky. Occasionally you get a good player (all star) and very rarely a HOF talent, but for the most, part it's role players or worse. If you remove international players who were not properly scouted at some point, it gets even worse.
