Raptors Extend Qualfying Offer To Mensah-Bonsu

June 29, 2009

The Toronto Raptors announced Monday they have extended a qualifying offer to restricted free agent forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu. Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed.

In accordance with the league's collective bargaining agreement, in order for a team to retain its rights of first refusal with respect to a restricted free agent it must tender the player a qualifying offer prior to June 30. A restricted free agent may sign an offer sheet with any team, but is subject to a right of first refusal in favour of the NBA team for which the player last played.

Mensah-Bonsu averaged 5.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 13.8 minutes in 19 games with the Raptors. He was signed as a free agent by Toronto on March

Evans and pops coming off the bench would be insane.

Sweet with Pops and Evans coming off the bench It will be really hard for us to blow leads like how we use to. However does this mean that Evans will play C and Pops will play PF? Because that lineup will be a bit undersized and foul prone. Considering that Pops is no taller then 6'8" and Evans being around 6'9".

get a back up C thru free agency or trade
possibly Rasho
POB would be the other center

I like the offer, and I'll like it even better if Pops can learn how to kick the ball out and reset after a rebound if an opportunity for a put back isn't there.

I like this, considering of course we actually sign him.

Evans and Mensah-Bonsu will provide alot of grit, defense and rebounding to our second unit. It would also give us defensive flexibility as Pops is better at guarding the more mobile, perimeter oriented big men whereas Evans is a better match against low post threats. At this point all I think we need is a PF/C who can score on the inside [back to the basket] and I think our frontcourt would be good for the coming season.

Nice. Now I want Humps traded and Rasho signed. THen I'll be happy with the big man rotation and th eonly thing we'll need to work on will be the wing positions

i guess its just insurance in case that hump doesn't comeback healthy.
he provides energy, but he nor evens has much offensive game, so they probably won't see the floor together.
It won't look too bad if its like evans/bosh and bargs/pops on the floor.
