Pietrus would be our best SF.... that's the problem. I'd sign him if we could dump Landry.... not happening. There were so many options out there and we got stuck with Landry stinking Fields. As Jeffb might say, 'sore wrist my ass', though I have no idea what that really means.

Sign Pietrus, he's got size and athleticism and he can shoot the three. What do we have to lose, the pick is already gone. It'd be a one year deal and it might help us not lose a #4 overall, of course only by making it a slightly worse #5 or 6 pick.

Seems like another bad panic signing when we should develop a system where our rookies can get play time.

Panic? He's better than McGuire.

From Dougie on the latest on Pietrus

Quote:
What’s up with Pietrus

Wish I knew for certain but there is no question there’s a lot of legitimate interest and it wouldn’t surprise me if something happened quickly.

(An aside: Pietrus is going to have to pass a physical and it was a year ago now that they flunked him on one because of a knee issue so take that into consideration).

Anyway, here’s the thing: He could very well be the best small forward on the roster the second he signs but to think he’s going to come in and all of a sudden turn things totally around is silly.

He’s good – solid shooter, good athlete, can defend – and he’s an upgrade but don’t get your hopes up that all of a sudden the problems at that position are going away.

Here’s something to think about: If Bryan is going to pull off some deal where he divests himself of a significant player out of the rotation – and he shouldn’t right now – I think you need to put the fantasy of Pau Gasol out of your mind and go looking for a small forward to plug into your trade machine.

That’s the gaping hole in this roster, that’s what has to get fixed first.

There isn't a SF on our roster he isn't better than. I think people aren't giving Pietrus enough credit. He's athletic, long, somewhat skilled and physical.... but is he healthy? That's my main concern. If we had Pietrus here for the next three years for cheap, it means one less mediocre SF behind him. It's obvious.

I hope he passes a physical if it goes that far. I'll take last years Pietrus over what we have now. And if he can stay healthy I want Kleiza gone if not by the deadline, next summer. Pietrus is a much more suitable backup SF for next season if we can finally go out and get a legit SF (which won't be easy).

If Kleiza isn't dealt, he may come in handy more if one of AB or Ed is dealt. Not that much, but somewhat. I think one of Ed or AB will be gone this year. It almost has to happen. I just hope not for some aging guy like Pau. I'd prefer a SF, it's so obvious that we need one.... even if we added Pietrus!

Yeah, our biggest need by far is at SF. And if you're going to deal one or two of your only chips it better not be for another big. Especially not an aging one as you said.

Kleiza isn't garbage. He played nice in Denver and with Lithuania this past summer. He has that competitive edge in him, enough to start any how. I don't think he's been given an honest shot. He'll get a game or two here and there but then it's back to being glued to the bench. I liked Pietrus in G-State and even Phoenix, but for this non playoff contending team at the moment,I don't think he brings anything that Kleiza,McGuire,Fields and Anderson can't contribute or lack in.

You're free to disagree, but he's better than all of them, though I think Kleiza is better than he's shown and Alan Anderson is a steady contributor too. I like Dom, he's long and athletic, and Fields is a solid cheerleader.

Oddly enough, things have gotten so bad that I miss Fields(and the disses,*thinks of the botched lay up in OKC lol*). He was the scapegoat

jeffb, I'm confused by your stance on the team. You seem to understand we're not a very good team yet at the same time support decisions to slightly decrease our mediocrity. Really, what does signing Pietrus do other than reduce our chance at getting a top lottery pick? Do you believe we have a chance at the playoffs with this current squad?

We're not getting a top three pick (therefor no pick) so it doesn't matter. May as well upgrade our SF position a little and at least have a better team to watch no matter how marginally better we'd be.

With the way Pietrus played last season, I doubt this will really reduce our chances at a lottery pick LOL

You say that, but we're statistically in line for the #2 pick in the coming draft if all goes well. I'm not a fan of tanking, but if it guarantees a true rebuild and removal of the failure parts I'd have to support it.

I can only expect our poor play will continue as our players become frustrated. Lowry's "5 feet under" comment is pretty telling.

He played pretty well in the playoffs from what I saw. Either way we're not getting a lottery pick unless we get one in a trade.

We're going to get a top 3 pick. Just isn't going to happen imo. To say we're in line for #2 after 16 games is just ridiculous.

With our luck, we'll be the third wosrt team and drop to 4th in the lottery.

I can't remember him in the playoffs but I know he was bad for 99% of the regular season. Only memorable game was that one interview he had at the end where he said his name in a high pitched voice.

Heh I see where you're coming from. Yah, with our luck we'll get the 4th pick and cough it up to OKC, who will find a replacement for Harden with it.
