Pick One To Resign: Patterson or Vasquez?
If you are the Raptors GM and have to decide between signing one of either Vasquez or Patterson to a new contract this summer- who do you pick and why?

It would be tough to say goodbye to Patman, but I vote :gv:

Ataf 05-18-2014 07:00 PM

I like Patman better but Vasq is more valuable to the team.

ZanTheMan 05-18-2014 07:06 PM

Patterson is starter material. Vasquez is not.

TDotRaptor 05-18-2014 07:12 PM

Love me some Vasquez but I'm going Patterson. His size, versatility, and offensive skill set is extremely valuable to our team.

Masai could get more bang for his buck if he brought in Patty Mills to back up Lowry.

I completely disagree, I think both have same amount of starter material. Patterson might be a better two way player, but grevis offers something special on the offence end, not to mention his much needed cockiness

Vasquez has actually proven more as a starter than PP ever has. IMO they're both borderline starters.

I'd take Patterson back, as good as Vasquez was I think even if we lose him, Kyle has proved to be the starter who gets 35-40 minutes a game, just need someone to back him up the rest of the time which shouldn't be too bad, if we lose Paterson we would have a harder time finding a replacement

Gravy for sure. Love patman but vasquez gets things going when the offense is struggling also he takes and makes big shots like its nothing.

niggles 05-18-2014 08:47 PM

Silly question. Why does any choice have to be made. This is a question for the free agent period, not now. I'm sure Masai will extend QO's to both.

At this stage, this is just an exercise in mental masturbation.

If KL stays, and I have to pick one of the two, (of course i would prefer keeping both), then I would keep PP. If KL goes, then I will certainly prefer GV, as there are not that many PGs available in free agency at the moment, and having one that can be a great six men, and a serviceable starter would be a bonus in a KL less situation

By the way, I have been asking myself the question: If KL leaves, what are our options in the current market to replace him?

pzabby 05-18-2014 09:22 PM

don't trade big for small. That rule in itself means P to the Pat.

More skilled pg's in the league right now than bigs, let alone offensively versatile ones that can play D too like PPat.

To be honest, i'd prefer a pg that's more of a 2 way player than vasquez, even if it means him being not as good on O.

Bill Haverchuck 05-18-2014 09:31 PM

I really like Patterson, but PF is arguably the deepest position in the league, and you can find a replacement without too much drop-off. On the other hand, it's hard to find a back-up PG who could start for a stretch of 10 games, if Kyle got hurt, and still give you a chance to win every game. When Vasquez was healthy, he showed that he could win as a starter. Also, Vasquez adds versatility to the wing positions, because he can play some SG. In fact, some of our best team basketball was played with Lowry and Vasquez on the court at the same time.

js12 05-18-2014 10:15 PM

Wow, this is such an interesting question. You ideally bring both back.

Considering our depth at PF, I think you have to go with Vasquez. I hated this guy at first but his late surge and passion for the city has won me over.

Patterson is hell of a player though. He can defend multiple positions and can score many ways on offense. In my opinion he is our best PF.

JoeyJoJo Shabbadu 05-18-2014 11:01 PM

Paterson. Draft is laoded with decent point guards and probabaly BPA will be a PG or SG. and PP is 25. Gv is what GV will be.

LOG 05-18-2014 11:11 PM

Paterson, stretch 4's who defend and rebound are not easy to find

Best point yet.

Admiral 05-19-2014 01:23 AM

Good PG play is the most valuable position in the current game. I take Vasquez over PP. Even if everything goes the wrong way this off-season and we only keep Vasquez, I would feel more comfortable with Vasquez being the starting PG with no Lowry than having another PF, even if the guy is a stretch 4. He's not stretching anything if there's no competent PG getting it there in the first place.

LightsOut 05-19-2014 01:37 AM

Wait I rather have patterson "resign" over vasquez
