Default Pass, Reggie, pass!!!

Sorry if someone's mentioned this in the post-game thread - that thing is way too long for me to read through...

Reggie Evans, for all his intangibles and energy and hustle, comes off like a really stupid and selfish player. Whenever he stole the ball or grabbed a rebound during the first two pre-season games, he would immediately start dribbling up the court himself or try to put the ball in the basket against a bunch of taller defenders, usually with disastrous results. Someone (read: Triano, Jay) has to calm his energetic ass right down and tell him to pass the ball as soon as he gets it, otherwise he is hurting the team more than he is helping.

Maybe he was trying to prove something to the Sixers?

Yeah it was annoying. Still i wouldn't assume this will be a regular occurence. Especially when the games start meaning something.

I liken him to a poor man's Oak, except that instead of a few behind the back passes into the second row a game, maybe he feels the need to dribble it up the court...

Doing it in preseason is one thing... i dont' expect we'll see that in the regular season...if we do, it should only be once

That's an adjustment that I'm sure Jay will see happen. Hang in there, these guys are still learning a new offense, their roles and boundaries. At this point I'm just happy they finally have someone who is willing to get after it and make turnovers happen. Evans has the potential to be the JYD of this team. Give it time.

I definitely don't want to see him going coast to coast anymore. I was starting to think that maybe he was trying to beat out Banks for that third-string pg spot, but then that would also entail passing, and not just ball handling.

Exactly.

BTW, Banks didn't look too bad...

I expect him to be smart enough to know he has hands of stone and isn't a ball handler.

I agree with you mike. I hated when he got offensive boards of steals and then would try and create himself. Hopefully during the season that will change

I'm not sure about him not doing it in the reg season. BC seems to want him unleashed. It's going to be interesting to see where his role ends up being. I do have to give him some credit for bringing the ball up pretty nicely. Better than I would expect. He can start the break off that way. He just needs to find someone to take it as soon as possible.

He really pissed me off last night. More than once. The worst was when he got a defensive rebound and dribbled the ball all the way down the court straight into a defender for a charge. He even had teammates running alongside him. WTF goes through this guys mind?

None of the new guys have impressed me overall so far, but I hope that starts to change tomorrow night at Minnesota.

No he shouldn't, he's an awful ball handler. If he gets a defensive rebound he needs to look for someone that can handle the ball (Jose,Jack, Turk, Beli) and get to the opposing basket.

He's not going to play more then 12-13MPG anyway and if he does we're fucked because it means Bosh is hurt.

I said he should get it to someone else as soon as possible. I didn't say he should do the Harlem fucking shuffle. He didn't look that bad handling the ball. He could easily start the break going up court for a few dribbles max. If he stops and waits to drop the ball off, then it isn't going to be much of a break.

To me he's reflecting what they want to try to do. Now they just need everyone in sync, and the ball to get in someone else's hands pronto while he continues to run.

I love having Reggie but over dribbling wasn't really what bothered me so much. It bothered me more that he would nab all those offensive boards and than try to stick evey one of them back in himself. He missed so many gimmies the first two games. He needs to kick those out every chance he gets otherwise he's negating the value of those boards.

Having said that, i love his heart and hustle whether practice or game, it's gonna pay huge dividends. His aggressiveness is gonna create all sorts of chaos for the opposition.

When he gets the ball it's just a classic case of him playing a little too much like Hump when on offence. They got on Hump's case about it and i'm sure that the coaches will get on Reggie's case to tone down the dribbling and putbacks also.

The dude simply has to recognize his limitations. He is a vet, he's been a role player all his career and it's not like the Raps are asking him to do everything. Maybe he is confused because he is starting in place of Bosh?

Honestly, it's best if he won't dribble at all. As far as rebounds are concerned - grab 'em and pass the ball out, stat, unless you've got a wide-open dunk or layup.

Another thing that bothered me with both Evans and Beli - too much gambling on defence. Both guys have smart and quick hands, but it seems that a lot of times those attempts to go for a steal led to them being left behind their cover driving to the hole.
