Default Over tax threshold - what's next

After adding Amir + Weem it appears the Raptors are about $450,000 over tax threshold. We know MLSE won't like this. That $450,000 will cost them $450,000 in taxes + loss of about $3,000,000 in tax distribution payments from the league.

So what does BC do next?

DEPTH
PG: Calderon, Jack, Banks
SG: Derozan, Belinelli, Douby, Weems
SF: Turkoglu, Wright
PF: Bosh, Evans, Johnson
C: Bargnani, Rasho, O'Bryant

I would do that with the cavs, cause the Cavaliers always think our shitty scrub players are gold.

excluding Parker, now that was a steal

And they have until the trade deadline to do something that evens out the numbers. I wouldn't expect anything imminent.

parker isn't going to do that good, though because he's getting up there.

If Colangelo is smart than we can say bye bye to Marcus Banks which will save us a million or get rid of Sonny Weems. Just trade them for draft picks.

Saying "bye" to Banks has nothing to do with BC being smart.

I don't know exactly what the management has in mind, but this team is not going to pay luxury tax, take it to the bank. Nor should they, not for the privilege of having Amir Johnson on their roster.

That means no room for POPs...thats disappointing...after seeing him play his heart out last season he deserves a contract...

Obviously they think Amir is better than Pops (or could be better).

amir >>>> pops
didn't anybody see this guy play? He's a pretty good player, excellent defender and a top shot blocker. Just as energetic as pops btw.

Yup he's better than Pops in every aspect but I wouldn't mind trading away Banks for a second round pick and signing Pops. He's got more of an offensive game than he lets on. He averaged like 27 and 14 in the D-League.

yeah, where are these figures of us going into the luxury tax coming from anyways? we haven't added any significant salary since we were in negotiations with delfino in the first place. the only reason they fell out (supposedly) was with the addition of beli. earlier reports were saying that we could add delfino for the approx. 4 million he was being offered, so how does this change things?

Assuming your math is correct, you simply waive Weems. I believe only $175,000 of his contract is guaranteed. He will not play anyway.

And for others that replied, give up on Banks - we're HIGHLY unlikely to get rid of him unless we take on another very bad contract. GMs are just not that dim - would YOU take on Banks for a second rounder or some other BS idea. Of course not. So do not assume other GMs would.

They can release Douby, he is @850K non-guaranteed.
They will also bring some other players on make-good contracts during training camp and the pre-season, so the bottom end of the roster will no doubt change before the season starts.
I think that we also used or got a/some additional trade exception/s to even out the disparity in the traded contracts, so they may not be into the tax.

I would be happy if they just released Banks. hey, it's not my money.

Also, i really know nothing about Weems... Can he do anything other than dunk competitions?

For sure, I'd keep Douby.

He can jump really high.

Regarless, I am heard the trade cannot be official until the 23rd. No who is saying that the Buck aren't giving us X amount of money to buy out Weems. I mean we are doing a sign and trade for them, which is kind of a favour in my opinion. I also think the MLSE would have not let BC do the trade unless they thought it was worth it and he would cover all the costs.

As for D-League stats, they mean nothing, Pape Sow once scored 40+ points in a game.

Cheers

We might actually get more for the trade. It's a ripoff because the only piece we might have kep was Roko Ukic so its literally Ukic for Johnson and Weems.
