sure you can, when you're talking about trading value. Who'd have thought that Carter is tradeable at 32 and 16/yr? And yet, Orlando traded for him. Same with hedu, there will always be someone who wants a 6'10" point guard.

as far as contract size, there's no comparison because we're talking completely different scenarios. But, for the record, Carter was signed 2 years ago, and most people though the nets are crazy to give an aging easy-taking Carter that much money, especially on a rebuilding team.

Also someone mentioned LLE. You automatically lose both MLE and LLE exceptions the second you sign someone elses free agent. There is no way to get them back no matter if you could find a way to get over the cap. The only way to retain Delfino would be to trade for a trade exception like someone mentioned or dump salary and players like Hump or Banks onto someone else. Sign and trade might net you some cap space also. In that case backend loading Turks contract might help a little too. If we can somehow get Delfino i think we would be a very good team next year.
He would fit into our starting unit perfectly and certainly bring some scoring off the bench if we choose that route.
I think it's more of a bench problem. And, remember that the difference between us and the top rebounding teams was somehting like 2-3 rbg, not something huge. I always thought that our rebounding was not that much of an issue - certainly not as important as perimeter defense and shot-making ability.

We don't have a bench that can shoot. A lot of our losses last year happened after the starters left with the lead in the third but the bench couldn't hold it.

We have nobody to fill in for injuries and in case you missed it Calderon is injured right now.

We don't have to keep AP, Delfino, etc. but it gives us something to trade with.

We also can spend the MLE on a decent player for the bench if we don't sign Hedu.

We'll be counting on Derozan (a rookie) to stop the slicing forwards. Not good at all...

All for what? 5 more points per game from the 3 spot?

I voted "Something else (please explain and try to be realistic about it ...)"
Sign Marion at 7Mil/year instead of signing Turk at 12Mil/Year. With the rest of money, just sign some other quality FA: Parker and Kleiza.

Denver has a large TPE The Raps could probably get.

Marion S&T to Denver for Kleiza S&T and a TPE

Hump for a future second rounder or something.
