You can't get the MLE like that, unless you mean sign-and-trade them for Hedo.

He was saying that we should sign Bosh for $30mil a year since we can go over the cap as much as we want.

Is Bosh worth that money? No. Is Hedo? Definitely not.

Lol, you keep saying this is a part of BC's plan but nowhere has expressed interest in getting rid of Bargnani. All Lee has got over Bargnani is rebounds.

I think Raps decided to go with the Turk option over the Marion one cuz they have to protect their cap space next season in case Chris walks. They will have about $16mill in capspace next year to do the same thing and sign someone elses free agent should they lose Bosh for nothing just like Marion. If they are over the cap $17 mill and Chris walks for nothing we conceivably won't be able to chase any free agents with his money because we would be over the cap. Of course we could get one using the MLE exception in that instance but all the really good players will sign for under the cap teams for more than that.

If they add someone else this year to more than the vet min for one year that will cut into that $16 mill next year. Unfortunately Hump and Banks will tie up about $8 mill in cap space again next season or we would have almost $24 mill to go after free agents. Banks is gonna end up killing us in several ways if he doesn't prove to be a great player next season.

I think it's unlikely. Barring long injuries to Calderon or bosh, we should be at .500+ team. And hedu at 10/yr at 31 is a better deal than Carter at 16/yr at 33.

There will always be a team that feels they need one more player and are willing to trade an expiring contact to try to get over (like the cavs over the past two years).

In any case, hedu will be MUCH more tradeable than marion at 10/yr.

My guess though is that if we trade bosh, we go in rebuilding around andreea, so we don't really care about hedu's contract for a couple of years at least.

rasho and jo were not signed by colangelo, only hedu. And the consensus around the league was that hedu was the top free agent this summer. Of course, you probably know better.

As far as rebounding, you are way off - andreea + Bosh + hedu according to last year's stats will average around 22/game. For comparison, SAS' frontcour averages about 19, Boston 22, Orlando 25, Utah 20, Chicago 20, 76ers 19 etc.

Other than Orlando, we would be among the league leaders in rebounding at the frontcourt positions.

And, as I was doing a bit of research now, I was surprised to see that Andreea rebounds as well as tyrus thomas or thadeus young, who are young athletic PFs. And he's not that far from Noah or Perkins.

S&T Marion for a trade exception, then sign Delfino + SG/SF
LLE sign Rasho

This topic is old. Turkoglu is already signed

Do we really need Delfino back? I think we can find a better wing (Dahtay Jones) We already have players that can shoot. We need defense and toughness.

Raptors

-Trade Hump/Cash (from Marion/JO trade) for Belinelli
-Sign Pops for minimum (1Mil) in place of Hump
-Buyout Banks (saves us around 3Mil)
-S&T Marion and Parker (combined 11-12Mil which allows us to use MLE) together or seperately for our depth
-Retain Delfino (3.5-4Mil)
-Sign Kleiza for 4mil (MLE)
Sign Rasho (LLE)

Jose/Ukic/Belinelli
Delfino/Belinelli/Derozan
Turkoglu/Derozan/Kleiza
Bosh/Evans/Pops
Bargnani/Rasho/POB

I don't think the Belinelli move works because GS would be taking too much money putting them over the cap i believe but nif that deal or something like it could be done i'd get it done if i were BC. And who knows what we'd be getting the S&T moves??

I would rather...

S/T Marion and Parker to Houston for Battier and Wafer [+whatever extra contracts]

Split the MLE between Delfino and Barnes.

Use the LLE on Rasho.

We wouldn't really need another pg if we have delfino, hedo and barnes who can all handle the ball.

Jose - Roko
Battier - Delfino - Barnes
Turkoglu - Derozan - Barnes
Bosh - Evans
Bargnani - Rasho

If we could somehow acquire a guy like Battier we'd be in a solid spot to succeed next year. Add in Pops into that mix somehow and we're golden.

Good moves, but the lineup would likely be

Jose/Ukic/Delfino
Battier/Delfino<-->Derozan
Turkoglu/Barnes/Derozan
Bosh/Evans/Pops
Bargnani/Rasho/POB

Very solid indeed. At this point i would take this or my option. Either way we'd be a playoff team that could get out of the 1st round if healthy.

No matter how you slice it, we really need another small forward and another shooting guard. Ideally, in addition to all these useless frontcourt bodies outside of Bosh/Bargs/Evans, we'd also sign Rasho to play backup centre.

Players we can use: Calderon, Roko, DeRozan, Hedo, Bosh, Bargs, Evans.

Players that could be useful currently under contracts: Humphries, Douby, Banks.

I don't think they really need Pops or Jawai or that those two would make any serious difference.

Therefore a magic trick BC has to pull off somehow would be to clear up some space via trades or sign-and-trades in order to get to use his salary cap exceptions - if he is denied his MLE, I see no way for him to fill those gaping holes in the wings.

In short - he is fighting right now in order to not have to sign Turk as a free agent using his cap room. He needs to be over the cap when he gets Hedo.

I figure Houston pretty much wants to shed money since they're going to suck anyways.

I'm just a huge fan of Shane Battier.

That's the kind of player Toronto needs more than any other.

That's great, but how can we possibly get Battier? As in, what do we have to offer that Houston is interested in, especially if you are not trading Bosh?

in my opinion you cannot compare a guy who just got a brand new contract worth 10.6 million a year to a guy who got a long term deal a few years ago and probably deserved the money at the time. you really can't compare a 28 year old's contract to a 31 year old's.

Interesting post. Obviously it appears our rebounding problem is more a function of poor rebounding guards and our bench. Delfino would be great if he was the only guy we can somehow find a way to retain. He rebounds fantastic for a guard and also would attack the basket more than someone like Parker plus he's still young.

Also someone mentioned LLE. You automatically lose both MLE and LLE exceptions the second you sign someone elses free agent. There is no way to get them back no matter if you could find a way to get over the cap. The only way to retain Delfino would be to trade for a trade exception like someone mentioned or dump salary and players like Hump or Banks onto someone else. Sign and trade might net you some cap space also. In that case backend loading Turks contract might help a little too. If we can somehow get Delfino i think we would be a very good team next year.
He would fit into our starting unit perfectly and certainly bring some scoring off the bench if we choose that route.

As long as you've got the MLE to use you can split it amongst players. It does not have to be committed to just one player. It's a team exemption, not an individual player exemption.
