It was mentioned by Leo Rautins and that's passion. We need it on defense, badly. Our leaders need to be more vocal on the defensive end. Every good defensive team has those two or three players that react a certain way to help pump up the team. So far, I've only seen it from Bosh and Calderon on offense and I've seen a bit of it in Antoine Wright on the defensive end. When you look at the Celtics, Garnett and Pierce really stand out because they react to everything, they have a passion for their defense, they're proud of it. Cavaliers have (or had) Delonte West and LeBron James (although he's not that great of an on-ball defender, but a good team defender) last year, Lakers had Kobe, Fisher and Odom. Those guys all play with passion on defense and that's what really differentiates our team from the Tier 1 teams. It just seemed like every time we were getting scored on, we would just move on and let our offense get back in the game. Enough with the low key, I want to see players hustle for the ball, get angry after fouls, foul hard if they are going to commit a foul. Play with passion and you will go far. That's one of the main reasons why we won last Wednesday against the Cavs. It's just something that needs to be addressed to the team and hopefully, the leaders will step up.

First off wassup Crip. Haven't caught you across a thread in a raptor forum for a long long long time.
As for Passion on Defense. I don't believe that for a second. The reason why I say this is because your passion will match the passion on the other side of the bench. Some defensive sets the raps laid up were pretty decent but like I said in the past this team will struggle with everything if it doesn't shoot the ball well. A perimeter style team like the Raps will always come up with this problem. I'll be a believer when the Raps when a game that doesn't require shooting the ball well. |

I just think that a desire to play defense is missing on the team. You always see Garnett, Duncan and LeBron being so vocal on defense, talking to their teammates, getting pumped after every defensive stop or playing with passion. That certainly helps boost the morale of the squad. |

Too much help too soon. I'd rather see them allow penetrating guards to try and finish over bigs, than promoting elementary kick-outs leading to open threes.

Reggie will help big time. we really miss him. Wright has to play with our starters as much as possible including starting. Banks can defend, use him when we're getting abused there. We could of used an energizer like Pops today but since we don't have him someone else has to get us going. Weems would of been nice today too because he can defend the perimeter. It was obvious today Anderson was killing us from the three point line and we failed to make adjustments. This is becoming a recurring theme.

We needed stops near the end of the fourth, and instead we were out rebounded on both ends of the floor. He's not a defensive juggernaut, but in this scenario his help would have been welcome and certainly appropriate.

More than that is missing. No way in hell should they have given Anderson so many open looks on the perimeter. That's all he can do, shoot threes. Toughness wasn't going to get someone out him, presences of mind would though. That's just one example. Redick got a million open shots as well. If Carter and Lewis were playing that game probably wouldn't even have been close. You don't bring the help if its going to leave a three point shooter wide open on the perimeter, that's just stupid.

What they are missing are brains, as usual. Helping off of the guys who are burying you from the three-point line? Or were they expecting Anderson and Redick to get tired of hitting wide-open threes? Was that the plan?
The whole "collapse" scheme itself collapses when met by good outside shooting, which is what happened on Sunday. In fact, I will stipulate that a team with Howard in the middle and four deadly three-point shooters around him is nearly unbeatable since the court is too large to recover if you help in the low post too much, but that's beside the point. Raps also got killed inside by Buss and Howard shot free throws better than Bosh or Calderon and... and... and... ad nauseum. They had a perfect opportunity to steal one from undermanned Orlando at home and they blew it. |

The team definitely lacks hard fouling. You need to be aware that you are getting beat and then foul so that opposition goes to the floor, not to the basket.
It seems like every player who comes to TO will initially do that, but then get all nice and soft. Turk knew how to be mean in first games. Wright was good at that too. Its not like everybody is in foul trouble always. Besides with deep bench we can allow anybody to get fouls. Bosh was specifically ordered to grab Howard or Shaq if they were going to score and failed even at that ![]() Less finesse, more force. |
