Default Our 2013 Draft Pick

As you all probably know we traded this pick to Houston for Lowry along with forbes but I would like to know what kind of protection we've got on it if any.

Depending on injuries and the stipulations of the trade, do you think it could end up biting us in the ass?

Top 3 protected for 2013 (we keep the pick if we make the playoffs) -Rockets get 4-15 pick

Top 2 protected in 2014 (keep the pick if we make the playoffs)- Rockets get 3-15 pick

#1 protected in 2015 (we keep the pick if we make the playoffs)- Rockets get 2-15 pick

The pick is protected 1-3 and 15-30 for the next three years; 1-2 and 15-30 the next year; 1 and 15-30 in the fifth year and completely unprotected in the sixth year.

It definitely won't bite us in the ass, in fact they'll hopefully be getting our pick (which will be the 25th) six years from now when we're a perennial conference finals team.

For the record I still don't understand how this affects our ability to trade away future first round picks if Houston still hasn't received theirs. Especially with the two in row rule.

Cause you just can't..... The rule considers the conditional pick to be possibly given in each year until all conditions are removed. It doesn't allow for you to trade any other first rounder, unless a second one is obtained, during the conditional term. It's just how they wrote the rule.

It matters if we make the playoffs? I have never seen that before.

You can put almost any conditions on a pick traded as long as both teams agree.... but I'm sure there are time restrictions.

They get the pick if it's in the lottery. 16-30 the Raptors keep the pick.

because you cannot trade your pick two years in a row i believe. The only way we can do that is if he trade on draft night, so pik for the other team and then trade the draft rights of that player

Acie has it right.

The inverted lotto-protection was an innovation. Has always been legal, but apparently has never been done before.

Not unless Houston agrees to a different trade resolutiion. We'd have to offer something else to get that done.

oh i see, thats frustrating. in a way we're in a lose/lose or win/win situation depending on how you look at things. (as long as we don't have a horrible season and end up giving a high pick)

If we have a horrible season, let's hope we win the lottery.

It's Lottery Guaranteed Pick for next 5 years.. If Raps can make playoffs 5 years in a row, then Houston will finally get the non-Lottery Pick in 6th year.

Think BC offered this deal, as he believes in the development of our Youth players. If we play good, then only concern would be the extension of Kyle Lowry's contract. Hope he can become a top tier point guard, so we will not hesitate on throwing maximum contract to him
