Default Our 2008/2009 starting 5 was one of the best in the league

According to 82games, we were 7th in scoring (10th when accounting for pace), 4th in assists, 22nd in steals, 10th in rebounding, and 4th in blocks (wow - 4th?).

Our bench though, was 24th in scoring, 27th in rebounding, 19th in assists, 29th in steals and 30th in blocks.

This season, we can argue who has the better bench, but it's unquestionable that we will be at least top 10 in most categories among all nba benches.

so, if we retaing our starter's averages, we should EASILY be a top 10 team in the league.

I am very surprised by these findings, but as far as I can tell, they are very accurate. It's possible that due to discrepancies between minutes played, the numbers might be a little off, but I don't think our starters have played an unusual number of minutes last season.

note: just checked and we are indeed 4th in the league in minutes played, but the differences are very small, top to bottom is just a 10% differential in minutes played, so even when we accounnt for minutes played, our starters are still top 10 in most categories, while the bench is bottom 5 in most categories.

There's something more thasn stats in basketball. Stats can lie. We were top 15 (the starters) but not that high. This is one of those cases when stats don't tell the truth. That's why we went 33-49.

Stats don't really lie dude.

Graham, Kapono, Ukic, POB, Soloman, Adams,Hump, Jawai

= one of the worst benches in the league by far.

Jose
AP
Marion
Bosh
Bargnani

= Decent starting 5

The thing is, if we had a better bench last season we probably get roughly 7 more wins and make the playoffs.

The big problem of starting Hedo off the bench is that Bargs doesn't play SF well. i.e. last year

Ok how about

Jose 6'3"
Hedo 6'10"
Bargs 7'0"
Bosh 6'10.5"
Rasho 7'0"

lol, this way we can be a threat on defense with pure height alone.

The only 2 positions Bargs can play well are PF and C (though I'd like to se him play the 2).

the blocks and rebounding were largely due to marion.

The Rebounds being up for the whole season overall were because of Bosh/Marion/JO

And the Blocks were mostly due to JO/Bargs
