Default O'Neal Didn't Realize How Quick Bargnani Is

Jermaine talking with USA Today about his offseason training so far in Vegas. Talks about the level of competition in Vegas right now is the best available this side of Beijing. Also throws some compliments Andrea's way.

I hope Bargnani's listening and paying attention to Jermaine, so that he actually learns something this summer.

The level of competition, which O'Neal says is "by far" the best this side of Beijing, can't be duplicated in a team's practice facility. And although the games won't show up in the next day's standings, don't tell the players they don't count.

"There's a lot of talking and it's competitive," O'Neal says. "If you lose, you're off the court."

I really, really think Bargnani is going to surprise some people this season. If he relieves Bosh for some time, he won't be forced to play in the post because J.O. can just live there for all I care. Keep Bargnani in the mid range where he is very effective, let him drive and he could just dish it off to J.O. for easy dunks.

Also, I would love to see Bargnani develop a fade away from 10 ft. out (in the same mold as Dirk has).

it's great to see that Oneal is buying into this current squad and appreciating his teammates. He seems like he has a great head on his shoulders.

Myself, i always thought Andrea was quick and had great foot speed for his size. He is quite agile. I just really hope playing and training with the likes of Jermaine (who seems to have a good work ethic and has good BB IQ) will rub off on him. Bargs has always been fast, but it's how he uses his speed that is important.

I dont really get too excited over this, smart Vets always say nice things joining a new team, see what he says if Bargs puts in those 3 fouls in 5 min nights, awkward drives and brick jump shots.

I guess he is quick for his size tho, hard to tell because he is so awkward looking driving.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit.I think Andrea will have a good season.Last season his role was never defined, therefor he lost his confidence. And then a few injuries made things worse. It was a snow ball effect, and i think he learned alot from it.We all saw what kind of player he could be in his first season and that was just his first season. As long as he knows that he needs to continue working hard to get better and adjust to other teams adjustments on him, he'll be fine.

And with another leader like Oneal on the team, along with the memory of last season's problems he should be motivated.

What the fuck are you guys talking about.

Bargnani had an injury plagued Off-year.

He shows, every game, glimpses of what he is able to do, so how is this news???

Of course he's fast, he's fucking good.

His problems lay in other area's. Most of them are upstairs, and are entirely from youth, and confidence.

Of course ONeal likes his game, he's a fucking #1 pick, and a damn fine talent.

What's wrong with what SJ said, he's right. Look at his first year and how he played.

Look at last year, you could tell there was something physically wrong with him; take into consideration he's only 22 (I believe) and it's pretty obvious why he took a step backwards.

He's still one of the most talented big men I've seen in a long long while.

Most Toronto fans seem to think so, ive watched every nba game he has ever played, and he has always seemed like a 7ft jump shooter to me, nothing more, nothing less, when his shot not falling, he doesnt really contribute much else. Perhaps im missing something. He has late 1st round pick written all over him so far.

Only reasoning i totally disagree with is saying "he's a number 1 pick" as if that proves he is good. Getting picked number 1 doesnt make you good, going out and proving it does, his good games are outweighed by his bad at this point in his career, he still has plenty of time to change that tho. But i never see him being more then a role player on a team, perhaps a really good 6th man, i never see him being a star. EVER.

Considering the lack of really great bigmen in the last few years coming in2 the league, saying he is the best you have seen in awhile doesnt amount to much. How long is "awhile" because D12 is young aswell, and obviously you dont want to compare them, and im willing to bet Oden does more for his team then Bargs this year.

Oh just remembered, i also think Al Horford is a much better bigman as a rookie then Bargs and he will continue to be that.

Bargnani is going to finally be healthy. last year respiratory problems made him get tired quickly and leg issues must have greatly hurt his shot. If you can't get your legs into your shot you're going to miss a lot.

He's now 100% and he's going to get to come off the bench with no pressure and he's going to get to play at his natural position a lot.

I think everything is set up for him to bounce back.

His passing and creativity with the ball is outstanding, his man defense is slightly above average and his ability to take his man off the dribble and get to the hole is outstanding.

He's far more than just a 7ft. jump shooter.

I think his passing and court vision is way above average for a big man. He'll have a great year this season, and all will be forgotten come next summer.

Wow are you serious? When does he get to the hole off the dribble and finish? lol seriously? Thats a huge rarity. He is a SG in a C's body. But for all this speed everyone talks of, he is way too slow to guard SGs. His passing is good, ill give him that, his D is OK 1v1, his help D is horrid.

But seriously, when do you see him taking guys off the dribble and finishing? Did i blink and miss it :P

And no, you dont use a number 1 pick overall to have a guy coming off the bench in his 3rd year, you simply dont plan on that unless he is failing.

You dont make a massive trade to get a C when he was supposed to be your starting C all along, unless you are losing confidence in his ability to be a C, and i think Bryan is, but he cant openly say it.

Taking guys off the dribble? All the time ... it was the finishing that he was abysmal with, not to mention a lack of low post moves.

The main reason i just dont really like the kid, is his body language seems that of a loser many times, eyes down, slumping shoulders. Little things like boxing out, not commiting stupid fouls, gaining more muscle, working hard to learn more post moves, hustling harder on defense to help, REBOUNDING, arent about natural skill, its about effort, and for a number 1 pick, the effort isnt there. Everyone has 101 excuses for him, be it cultural, physical, mental, coaching or w/e, at the end of the day when you are drafted number 1, you are expected to work harder then EVERYONE in that draft to prove you deserved it, and honestly, can you tell me Andrea has?

That's called lack of confidence.

Anyhow, I'm not defending Andrea by any means Ugo because I think I'm one of the most critical members here of Bargnani, but I promised that I try and turn over a new leaf and be more positive and optimistic regarding Andrea's future here in Toronto especially next season.

I always thought Bargnani was one of the quicker players of his size in the league. His ability to blow past people on the perimeter and get in for a dunk or to the line could come be very VERY useful if he starts putting his tools together and realizing his chances better.

I'm used to to eating crow around here. Just ask my peers. It was only 2 or 3 years ago where I said LaMarcus Aldridge was going to be a huge bust and never amount to anything. Boy, was I ever wrong.
