Offseason Wish List

1. Tough, slashing wing player - preferably a strong defender/rebounder (gotta be starter-material, Raps have enough backup wing players).

Raps may have to give up one of their PGs (hopefully TJ) to get one but that may not be a bad thing, provided they're able to pick up a capable backup for Jose (see #3). Possible candidates: Corey Maggette (tough, constantly attacking the rim, decent rebounder, not sure about his defense {haven't seen him play enough}), Andres Nocioni (strong rebounder/defender, smart player), Richard Jefferson (athletic, decent at everything - shooting, slashing, defending, rebounding), not sure who else, these are just off the top of my head. Personally I'd like to see Maggette as a Raptor; a lot of his strengths seem to be what the Raps are lacking, while the Clippers would like Ford as insurance for Livingston (and, because Livingston is as tall as a shooting guard you can play them together without worrying as much on defense), plus I don't think Maggette's happy in LA. I look forward to replies on this one because I only see the Clippers twice a year.

2. Rebounding/shot-blocking big man - preferably a decent low-post threat (probably a backup, don't need to slow Bargnani's development by burying him behind another centre).

I haven't given this one a lot of thought but a couple good rebounding backups that might be had for cheap (by NBA standards) are Reggie Evans and Jeff Foster (neither are particularly good shot-blockers though, especially Evans). Not sure who the free-agents are this year, just throwing names around.

3. Backup PG (maybe 3rd PG if Jose and TJ stay) - capable/willing distributor, decent shooter, decent defender, preferably a steady veteran (just not as old and slow as Martin).

I'm not even gonna list any possible candidates; backup PGs are a dime a dozen and theres no point in this at all if Roko Ukic comes over next year and shows that hes capable of playing at an NBA level because hes gonna need some PT.

Mostly just did this to start some conversation and maybe hear some suggestions that I missed.

Hey, great post, and welcome to RF! :)

Acie 03-12-2008 12:21 AM

Welcome aboard and nice first post.

Raps problems will be solved when they get Nocioni from Chicago. ;)

Torontosaurus 03-12-2008 12:24 AM

Welcome to RF man!

Maggette is decent and would bring something we need to the table

Good point on the TJ + Livingston guard tandem, if a trade went down

However, I've always been a fan of Nocioni and his hard-nosed play and killer instinct - we need more toughness on this team

Belsius 03-12-2008 12:25 AM

I would like to see Nocioni/Kirilenko here. If Tj just doesnt work anymore, Ukic wil be a pretty good adition probably as a second PG, but I hope Tj get his thing together, wich it looks like he does, and he stays.

And lets just hope Bargs improves as C.

BTW, heres your welcome thread:

Off-season wish list:

Reggie Evans from Philadelphia
Andres Nocioni + Chris Duhon from Chicago

This solidifies our toughness and rebounding quotent

By the way, welcome, and great first post! :)

roidrage1 03-12-2008 01:41 PM

offseason wish list....resign calderon...start him...find a back up point guard who will know his role...umm and also resign delfino...i think we need to get stronger up front in C/ PF position we need like a ben wallace type of player..scrappy..and can bang. raps are too soft right now pretty much a typical european team...thats pretty much it. maybe coaching change...seriously...smitch micro manages too much like regardless of how bad a player is playing he will play him up to this certain minute mark and then he'll sub him off...a good example was from last years playoffs when warriors destroyed the mavs...thanks to avery johnsons micro management tactics

That just makes us a treadmill team. It makes us tougher but we're still not getting anywhere without getting the SF we need, which means trading one of the PG's.

We need a big move not roster tweaks.

I wouldnt mind getting evans though, and if we're getting Noc it better be to bring him off the bench.

MangoKidHoops 03-12-2008 01:52 PM

So what do you think, Thriller about acquiring a SF.. who would you target?

I do like Evans for off the bench..

Ball Don't Lie 03-12-2008 02:34 PM

I'd target Granger and Iguodala and be willing to give up Jose for Iggy, and TJ+whatever for Granger.

MangoKidHoops 03-12-2008 02:39 PM

Then who plays the point?

Channing Frye.

MangoKidHoops 03-12-2008 03:15 PM

Granger said that he didn't want to play in Toronto, but only after they passed on hiom twice - it was more of a "I'm happy to be in Indiana" comment than anything.

Green never want to come to Toronto, neither did Frye.

No no, I meant do one of those trades, not both haha.

It was Greens family that told him to tell toronto to fuck off. We didnt pick Granger because of his 'knee problems'

canada_rocks2369 03-12-2008 03:20 PM

Thanx guys - I actually think that a Maggette-Ford deal is more likely than acquiring Nocioni or Jefferson but Granger is a real possibility too. The Pacers and Clippers could use a player like Ford but Chicagos backcourt is already crowded and small by NBA standards. NJ has a young and improving Devin Harris to build around and would have the same problem the Raps have now. Do u guys think a trade for Maggette would work? If not straight up, who do u think the Raps/Clips would have to add to make it work? Not sure how the contracts match up (I think Maggette can opt out this year so he'd have to want to play in Toronto) but I'd be curious to see if its a real possibility. How is he defensively? Most of u probably know more about him than me but I know hes a decent rebounder at his position and he shoots a lot of free throws (something the Raptors desperately need) and at a pretty good percentage.

lol... he'd beg us to take him now.
bitch.

MangoKidHoops 03-12-2008 03:44 PM

He'd be begging anyone to take a chance on him. Karma's a bitch! He'd be better off going to see if he can deal with it in Europe.
