Raptors Offseason plans for the 5 worst teams in the NBA

Quote:
Toronto Raptors

The first thought that comes to mind when discussing Toronto is “they’re not awful.” They do have some pieces that could be important role players on playoff teams. But the Raptors are missing that one standout player that makes them a true contender. The teams at the top of the standings are littered with stars. In today’s league, teams need one of two combinations: either an A+ superstar (Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, etc.) or a few A-/B+ stars (Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs). The 2012 offseason may provide a window of opportunity for the Raptors, but does anyone really see a CP or Dwight thinking, “Wouldn’t it be fun to move out of the U.S. and play for a non-contender?” If superstar free agents are out of the question, Toronto must continue to build the old fashioned way: through the Draft.

Andrea Bargnani, Ed Davis and DeMar DeRozan haven’t been busts, but no one is waiting for them to turn into superstars. To be perfectly honest, the Raptors simply have to hit it big in the Draft at any position. They can cry all they want about specific positional needs, but teams stuck in the gutter do not have that luxury. Whether that draft pick turns into a superstar or trade asset, it sets them up well for the future.

This team will be complete once we get Kemba Walker. The rest will take care of itself..

If we draft well this summer I would have to think most of the rest of the team will be rounded off through trade and signings in the next couple years.

Even the thought of Dwight or CP in a Raptors jersey makes me giggle.

Who knows? It might happen. With the high draft pick, DeRozan, Davis and other pieces, this club has a bright future. Eventually people would want to come here. Just like people will soon jump to OKC.

Its true when the article says the Raps need to hit a homerun and get a star player with this draft pick. However, if they lose out on Irving, do they go after the unlimited potential of Perry Jones. However he was banned for fives games for receiving impromper benefits from a AAU coach, and many questions on his passive behavior on the court.
Maybe they get another building block this year, suck next year, and go after Rivers or Davis next year. The only way RAPS get back to the playoffs is through the draft.

Only way? Please, after this draft pick it'll mostly then be through trade or two and whoever they sign. A couple important players will have to be added through more then just drafting.

Not too many star players will be attracted to the Toronto Market. Like the article said, their star player will be obtained by homerun hit in the draft. The can sign and trade for some good pieces like Marc Gasol or Deandre Jordan, but that "one standout player that makes them a true contender" will come from the draft.

This draft, offseason, new CBA may determine my life as a Raptors/NBA fan.

Yes, it is true that no FA would sign with a rebuilding club, but is that the only reason?

Methinks a star FA will look for big spenders promising to bring in more stars (aka MLB). That leaves us out....and continuing to feed these "Super Teams".

The NBA has to protect their small market teams. They cant allow LA, NY, Miami to "buy" championships.

They will lose me and I suspect many other fans that have common sense.

I totally agree guys..

I wouldn't wan't him.. he's like a shorter Bayless, wouldn't make sense
it would be nice if we could get Derrick Williams

Bayless
Derozan
Derrick Williams
Ed Davis
?

that would be a good starting 4

Walker= Stronger TJ Ford
Jay Williams also compared him to Ty Lawson, which is not a bad comparison either. He's a scorer but he also won't be Nate Rob- terrible in running a team.

P.S- Why is Jamie Skeen projected by some as going undrafted? I didn't see much of VCU but he looked great against Butler, and doesn't appear to have any physical limitations.

Or he may have chose to represent Bargnani with a question mark as a metaphor that he is always so clueless on the court

and yet another over-stated post to embellish one's hate....

It's like some can't resist!!! lol Dude, we get it.... you don't like AB. If you said it less, I'd be inclined to believe it's for valid reasons and not for something resembling your girlfriend having a crush on the suave Italian big man.

We also get that you love the guy....maybe a little too much. I also hope its for valid reasons, because his play isn't one.
you were kinda late on ur defence this time tho, i was kinda expecting u sooner lol.
and where were u the last couple of days? there was that "i enjoy watching this team play without bargnani" thread, but u were nowhere to be seen

PS: my gf thinks he's a pussy and thinks CP3 is cute lol

lol... dude, I'm not interested in responding to all the hate threads that pop up... it's beyond arduous.

You're clearly wrong that I love AB, but I do see zero value in trading him just for the sake of it. Call it a reasoned approach... sorry I don't jump on the hate wagon and blame everything on him. To borrow a phrase from Jeff, step away from the ledge.

AB is 25. Those suggesting he can't continue to grow as a player haven't left room for reason. I don't declare him a franchise player..... maybe that's why I don't hate him? I also don't declare Davis or DeRozan franchise guys yet either. I didn't with Bosh..... I did with Vince though. Very few guys deserve it, but it seems many get caught up in hype..... like that surrounding Weems last offseason.
