Hey guys, just wanted to make this thread so we can keep track of how shafted we're getting by the refs this season. If people have counter-arguments those are also good. I would like serious arguments/evidence though: video examples, video comparisons, stats, etc.
Here's the one I'd like to bring up. Looking up the advanced team data on Hoopdata I found a very interesting statistic: We have the highest Opponent's Free Throw Rate (OFTR) in the league. This is opponents free throw attempts divided by their field goal attempts. Ours is at .40 with Golden State is next behind at .37. The best teams are around the low .20s. If I'm not mistaken (I'm not great at math), that means we have a 15% higher OFTR than the second worse team in the league. Hoopdata - NBA Team Defensive Stats There's no way we should be having that many foul shots being attempted against us. All the knocks about our bad defense have centred around blow-bys, bad rebounding and giving the opponent fast break opportunities. I haven't heard a single comment from the commentators, players or coaching staff about fouling too often. And it's abnormally out there in regards to how bad it is. The average is .27 and we're 13 percentage points off of that. (The teams are between .20-.40) Also it's important to remember that almost all of the other defensive efficiency measurements factor in Opponents' FTA so this would also trend us down in virtually all defensive metrics. Maybe this is just a quirk but after seven games it's skewed enough to seem unreasonable. Either something's up or our worst problem as a team by far is that we're apparently fouling constantly. ![]() |

What pisses me off is how people around the league say that if you play aggressive and take it hard to the rim, you'll get the calls. Demar Derozan has singlehandedly disproven that assertion, as he constantly takes it hard to the rim and gets no calls from the bastard refs who hate the Raptors.

He's also not stomping around and whining anymore when he doesn't get a call, that's a lot tougher to curb than you might think once resentment has set in. I give him a lot of respect for maturing in that area. More calls should be coming his way if he keeps it up.

Overall I must say that there has been some questionable calls this year for us. Good thing about JV is he doesnt lash out as much when he gets called for a foul |

Casey does need to manage the refs better.
And this team needs to stop giving up easy baskets. To me that's a bigger problem than the calls, and both taken together is just depressing, and it would seem to go hand in hand with the increased tempo. That has to be addressed before we're right back into Jay Triano territory. The fuck ya gonna do? |

You wanna see disgusting refs, watch Miami! Delfino got held by Bosh on the screen, for LeBron go ahead basket, and there's not a mention even from Houston commentators! It was so blatant! Bosh's body wasn't even in the way, it was just his arms. so clear to see. But it's so common place, that no one raises an eyebrow anymore. NBA will even include drives of Wade and LeBron, carrying the ball or taking extra steps in the highlights! Eat up and shut up! |

i dunno how you judge fouling in this league but first i'm patient in the opening Q, try and guage what level of contact the refs seem to be accepting. Whilst keeping track (a rough track, not saying i count them and keep them in my head,) of how many fouls each team has committed, that weren't given. then when it starts becomming obvious i might say "oh well, that was a marginal one, coulda gone either way i suppose." Then see if the other team are getting those sort of fouls called for them. "oh well, there was some contact, i can see how they gave that." By the 3rd, 4th Q when the opposition is 5, 6, 7 fouls given that we haven't been given it becomes blatant! you can accuse me of being biased if you want and all fouls aren't the same but to me it is bloody obvious that there are something like 10 teams in this league that do not get calls and probably 5-10 teams (and certain players,) that are given way too much respect in this league. and then there's things like travels and push-offs. |

I thought last night was problematic, just because it was pretty inconsistent as to what was called on either end. It still wasn't the primary reason for the loss.
