Default Official: Triano to replace D'Antoni on Team USA

Sources: Ailing back to keep New York Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni from World Championships - ESPN

It's believed that Toronto Raptors coach Jay Triano, already a member of the Team USA staff, will take D'Antoni's spot on the bench in Turkey under head coach Mike Krzyzewski. The other assistants are Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan and Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim.

Hmmm even though it's because of injury it looks good on Triano

It's still weired to me that the coach doesn't need to be from there home country?

Regardless of how Triano managed to find his way into Team USA's program, this is good news.

I am assuming you mean Triano specifically and not that it's because he isn't of the same nationality as the sports program he is involved in. "import" coaches (for lack of a better term) can be found at the top level in pretty much every sport.

As for Triano, the guy is a respected basketball mind as we have been told for quite some time now. To me he seems a little timid and passive to be a good head coach, but i'm sure he has something to offer the program outherwise he wouldn't be there.

Personally i don't think he's that good, but i don't know anything compared to the people that run USA basketball, so....

U.S. assistant coach Mike D'Antoni will miss the world championships because of a back injury and be replaced by Toronto Raptors coach Jay Triano.
Quote:
Triano is an experienced international coach who coached Canada from 1998-2004. He started working with USA Basketball in 2007, coaching the select teams that scrimmaged against the national team. He also ran the Americans' minicamp last summer.

"I've had the chance to work with a lot of these players over the past few years coaching the USA select teams and I'm looking forward to taking the court with them and Coach K in Istanbul," Triano said.
