No, you're not. The new team assumes the player's contract. The terms of the contract are not changed in the least. If that were the case, the player's consent would legally be required - and in the NBA, it is not.

I am not saying the terms of the contract change. I am saying that in the case of the amnesty you are not going to be able to trade for a player you can then turn around dump. This rule allows teams to get out from under existing contracts for their roster. Those contracts are going to have existed for those teams before july 1, 2011. Assuming a contract does in fact change the contract because those who hold the rights to the contract have changed.

And you can say that all you like, but that is not what the rule in the actual proposal says. If you have a link to some proof that this is what the rule will be, I would love to see it.

That's what I expect the end rule to be, but it WILL require an additional addendum to be written up in the legal CBA, because the current version does not prohibit that.

yes, it would have to be a very beneficial trade. I was thinking just outside lottery area pick, 8-16, and a decent piece with it as well. Cheaper, young player as well. So for the money ur getting, a decent young player and a pick. MLSE might not wanna do it.

I believe I am trying to explain to you that the my proof is what you already posted. Ie. " only applicable to contracts active at the inception of the CBA."

I would also love to see where it has ever been said that contacts can be acquired from other teams and then dumped. I am pretty sure any sports columnist worth there salt would jumping on that story, yet there isn't one mention. What your implying Is quite the game changer, not something ownership would allow at such a delicate moment in the leagues history.

What I'm implying is that there may have been an understanding that that was the case, but it wasn't written down. As such, in the final form, it well may be the case that you cannot trade players.

Think of it this way. The way the proposal is written, player contracts are divided into two groups - those in place at the inception of the agreement, and those signed under the new agreement. If the contract is a new one, it is eligible to be stretched, if it is a pre-existing contract, it is eligible to be amnestied. As such, a player who already has a contract and is traded will fall into one of the two groups - and either way can be open to one of the waiver rules. If you want to define a trade as a new contract, then the player is eligible to be stretched. You can't have it both ways.

I believe the traded player still falls under the second group, as I've seen no indication that a traded player becomes eligible to be stretched, and no indication in the document that a trade nullifies amnesty eligibility.

To follow up - it seems the rule to eliminate this is being written into the rules (according to Larry Coon on twitter) specifically. Seems the issue was overlooked in the proposal, but was intended to be restricted, as I expected. So in the end it will not be allowed.

Why would Boston do that? If anything they need to rebuild around Rondo, not trade him.

There's a rumour that they may look to deal him. If he has to be involved in a package for Howard he'd be as good as gone.

The Celtics have been discussing trading Rajon Rondo for Chris Paul, according to sources. But the Hornets don't appear interested in a two-team deal.

Danny Ainge has been searching for a third team that would give the Hornets young pieces that would help Dell Demps in his rebuilding plan.

It is also unclear whether Paul would agree to an extension, something Ainge would need to execute a trade.

1.
to portland : barbosa + bargs
to toronto : roy + batum + 1st round 2012.

portland shed roy and gets a solid sg to replace him and a big men who can score, and who can fit in their system. wallace and aldrige can cover him.

we get a solid sf defensive starter, also young, and a really special backup sg.

2.
caldy + davis + 1st toronto 2013 + 1st portland 2012
for
rando + Krstic

Boston get a young a promising PF defender, who will have some good mentor to teach him. caldy will fit in their system, and 2 first round would be nice to rebuild.

we get a hot pg, and a nice backup Center who as only one year.

That doesn't make some difference in capspace. so we can go after a big FA and some role player.
hope for chandler
sign for cheap M Banks + R evans

Rando/JBay/Banks
DD/Roy/Banks
Batum/JJ/Kleiza
Amir/Reggie/Kleiza
chandler/Kristic/Alabi/"JV"
