^You can't fix everything in one trade. And some of the trades are not about getting better right off the bat. If we trade Lowry in most scenarios we would be getting worse, but getting a lottery pick in return would be huge.

KL is our best player and he likely has the most value on the market. He is also our oldest core player, so if we are going to win now, than great keep him.. However if the plan is to give this team couple of years does it really make sense to keep Lowry?

Same would go for Derozan, but he is younger so keeping him for few years would mean he is in his prime. Having said that I'm not sold on him, and the fact that he will be getting a big paycheck on his new contract has to be considered too.

We don't have untouchable players, but there are no quick fixes either.

Keeping Derozan a few years means probably having to pay him in the 20mil/yr range which is just gross.

I agree, but I was talking more in terms of his age.

I guess the question is then, are we rebuilding? If so I agree, take the high lottery pick and don't look back. However if trading Lowry signifies we are rebuilding then Derozen must go as well as I think we in Toronto all agree that he is not worth what he will be asking next year. With that said I suppose the hardest question to answer is, if you trade Lowry and/or Derozen who do you attract as free agents?

I do believe money is the key driver here however would Green or Aldridge or anyone coming from a winning program want to come here? I believe Masai knows many changes are required to better however do not think he is thinking rebuild but rather a big re-tool. I think the only way they trade Lowry is if they believe that him and Casey can't get on the same page or believe he will be worth more at the trade deadline. I think we are closer to trading our pick at 20 than using it or other players to move up.

If he's an important building block on and off the court for the Raps that is just entering his prime, why is it "gross" to pay him 20mil/yr especially when the nba salary cap will increase to nearly or over 90mil for a team and players in the same age range, talent caliber will be receiving the same?

I'm not against trading him if a deal appears to make the team better but is getting rid of DeRozan now because he's due to a raise soon the answer when its not crystal clear whether he's unworthy or worthy of one?

I get if the Raps get the sense he may not want to re-sign then they trade him but I don't get the whole fear of the raise thing because he may turn out to be worth 20mil/year just like he's turned out to be with the 9.5mil/year on his current deal.

I think whatever the salary cap increases to this is not an excuse to become irresponsible with our $$$ whether we can afford it or not. 20M per year is for franchise players or perennial all stars of which we have neither. I would rather offer max money to Danny Green or Middleton than pay Derozen 20M. Also, if we had a player worth 20M per year nobody would be talking about a potential trade.

20 mil is the new 11 mil. If you save 20 mil for perennial all stars, you will never sign any perennial all stars. Perennial all stars will soon be getting 40 mil.

I think DeMar's more likely price is 25 mil-ish, and I think we should pay it.

I haven't been around for a while, looks like this place is dead. Oh well, I can't say I'm surprised.
